Our Companions For Life, Help Us Save The Breed.

Hi , my name is Curtis and for the last 16 years one of my biggest passions has been American Pit Bull Terriers.
Being a loyal servant to the breed, I must say now that none my dogs has ever bitten or attacked anyone. I was born in "Trinidad " and always had a passion for animals.
My family and I lived near the market-place in a little town called Chaguanas. One day my mom brought a pup home and asked me to give it a name. I rightfully named the puppy, "Puppy". .He was all tan and chunky to the bone. When Puppy was about 2 years old he was shot and killed by our neighbour, needless to say I was heart-broken. About 4 years later a stray female from the market-place came wandering through our open gates. That stray dog was quickly named by my sisters and me. Her new name was Lucy. Looking back now, Lucy had strong Pit Bull features, (but we all know that many types of dogs do). In those days I had no knowledge about these wonderful dogs, or even if there were any in Trinidad. Being an un-spayed stray, Lucy quickly became pregnant and had six or seven puppies. My sisters and I tracked her to her whelping spot and weeks later took two puppies, one of which was given to a friend and the other we kept. Our new pup was called Boobee, and it's mostly because of him that I have realized my passion to another level.
I came to The United States in the 80's on a music scholorship and lived in Boston for almost four years before graduating.. Sometime in 86/87 I moved to the Bronx NYC.
I got my first American Pit Bull Terrier in 1987 and things have not been the same since. I was captivated by the mannerisms of this breed, the intensity, drive, raw physical ability, loyalty, I could go on, these dogs are just natural athletes of sorts. In 1994 I rented two garage spaces at my friend's home and decided to go around the city looking for stray Pit Bull dogs. I built 27 kennels in the garages and my rescue mission began. Needless to say, dogs came from everywhere and before long every kennel was filled. I eventually found homes for about 74 dogs.
My mission kept afloat for about 4 years before I ran out of funds and was having problems with my friend/landlord. She had raised the rent by more than 120% of what it started out as. I also did not have funds to feed all of these dogs, at that time about 15, so I worked extra hard and found them all homes. I have many pics of these kennels and though they are not of excellent quality , in time will I share them with you. I moved to Indiana about 1 1/2 years ago bought 5.5 acres with about 2.5 being woods and in time plan to start some sort of rescue work again.. This time the landlord is me and the sky is the limit. TAKE THIS TEST.. FIND THE PIT BULL.
