After
several months of being offline, we are proud to be back and any past
contributors should contact us right away, especially if you have not received
payment. As you also may have noticed we have a new server with a new
address, this address is only temporary until our domain name is transferred
over to this server, then again it will be www.alternaterealitieszine.com,
but we will have an auto redirect on this page then. This can take up to
2-3 months for the transfer to come through. Our new server as some
great benefits like: larger bandwidth, a chat room, forms for you to give
us feedback by and other great features!
Now.
. . onto the explanation to our absence as we owe that to our reader's and
contributor's, though understand this is a very painful topic so do
not write me to offer sympathy. If you wish to skip this and go onto our
other changes, just click here.
In
late July I found out that the achilles surgery I had in Dec. 2001 did not
take and it was hanging on by only the sheath and at anytime it could have
snapped. I was scheduled into surgery right away and in early August
had a total rebuild of my achilles tendon. . .you'd think this would be the
end, but there were complications, I had to go back in and have a manipulation
done as when they took the tendon from my big toe and grafted it onto the
original tendon, but it was healing far too tight, so they had to move it
round, and when they did so, they opened a wound, and by October this had
developed into a real problem and I ended up back in the hospital, this time
for a month. While in the hospital my daughter ran away for the first
time, but was returned the next day by the street kids she was hanging out
with. Then Dec 9th, 2002 my child ran again, not because of mistreatment,
but because she got involved with an underground group called The
Juggello's/Juggellettes followers of a band called I.C.P. (The Insane Clown
Posse) and a local group ran by a drug dealer, I only know as "Double D"
who hides out runaways as did the Jugglello's/Juggelletes, but worse than
that he is a drug dealer in a school zone, who at any given time can be found
with runaways in his house smoking dope he supplies. . .this little group?
The Tragedy 503's. Our police farce did little to help with a
run situation, not even following up leads from the 100's of color posters
I had plastered all over town. In the meantime, I was back in the hospital
for Dec 26th-January 2nd for a bone infection on one of my fixator sites..
. .I felt so helpless, useless, of course a failure as a mother. Finally,
after changing the posters to list the above people as hiding her out, enduring
death threats, my daughter ran out of places to stay, called and came home.
Her doctor and I had pre-arranged for her to go into the hospital for
a complete physical and to go into a mental ward to get the help she needed
because, I had come to find out, while she was gone all the lies and
manipulations she had pulled on me, not to mention on my roommate, for which
she verbally accused of raping her, though her original run letter, disputes
that and other insurmountable evidence. During the physical she told
me of the 3-4 guys she slept with while gone a month and a half, and later,
I find out she is pregnant by a 20 year old man, which she had introduced
to me as being 16, going on 17, even his birthday in August 2002. So
complex were her lies THEN, the State of Oregon stepped in and since
then it has been a real night mare, finally resulting in a total breakdown
on my part, ending up in a psych unit of a hospital as I tried to end my
own life after talking to my daughter, my one and only child, who instead
of being my sweet child, was instead her alter ego "Lil' Devil" and the State
has done NOTHING to get her the help she needs, they are instead focusing
on her having a baby I am totally against as my side of the family has extreme
high risk pregnancies and when I had her, in my mid 20's, her and I nearly
died when she was born, so with my mother, grandmother, etc. So they
are willing to sacrifice her life for their own agenda. . .and people ask
why the teen pregnancy rate is so high? So, I have now retained a civil
rights atty and we are going for changing the parental rights laws in Oregon
to avoid this. I wanted this whole story to get out as IF you have
children watch out for the signs of this group, the children will often say
they want to go to a friends house, but the friends will have no phone, or
they say they will call you when they get there, and they don't know the
address. The child will also become extremely manipulative, threatening
when they do no get they're way, they don't care about any punishments, saying
I don't care if you ground them, revoke privledges, or take away things of
importance. They are nation wide and here in Oregon I can give you
the names of at least a dozen cases of this and worse than mine. Please
be aware. . .in my pain and suffering, depression and such, I allowed myself
to be manupilated and also as I said she is my one and only. . .this may
end up costing me my child for a very long time, don't let it happen to you.
If your kid runs, feel free to contact me, I have a ton of links of
folks that will help you when your local police don't.

I will convert the files after checking them and forward them on. Finally,
we would like to welcome back Robyn Wills as our Fantasy Editor, poetry
editor (Please not that these too must be genre specific as we are printing
a very limited number), book reviews and will be taking care of some
of the long fiction. You can reach Robyn through my address (ATT: To
Robyn Wills), or send snail mail submissions to Robyn at: 1530 S.W.
13th #302 Portland, OR 97201. Then there are all other zine issues
AND the genre of Horror and Flash and/or long fiction, these genres are handled
by Joan M. McCarty (me) along with advertising, and being the sole webmistress
of this site. I take all attachments (Wordperfect, WORKS, DOC, RTF,
TXT, Word), even zip files (my computer is the only one that is protected
very, VERY well). I also feild all questions about the guidelines,
Artwork and any other zine business. The address is all over above,
no reason to put it down again, avoiding the redundancy factor. You
can get a copy of the guidelines on our Guideline page, once it is back
up, for now we are working on one page of the zine at a
time, so for the new guidelines, please feel free to contact me for
a copy of them.
Another
major change is that the zine is going quarterly. This is primarily
due to myself and the other editors. All of us are writers ourselves, and
we need to have the time to work on our own projects, sales, and appearances.
ALL Submissions MUST be uniform, no special characters if you are using
WordPerfect, Double Spaced ONLY, Courier, Arial or Times Roman 12 pnt., Italics
will be underlined to denote their presence, pleases do NOT just italicize
it, they MUST contain the following info at the top of each page, prior to
the story itself: Author's REAL name and Pen name (if any), Address (Snail
Mail), e-mail address, genre of story (if there is a question to where it
falls, write me with a brief description and I'll let you know), date of
submission, a brief biography on yourself, and photo--optional (attach in
JPEG or GIF form), and any relevant URL's you wish to appear with the story
and bio. We are now putting the bio's on the same page as the story.
Failure to do any of the steps listed here, or above, will result in
a returned, unread manuscript. When submitting via snail mail at our
main address: 5026 N.E. 57th Ave. Portland, Oregon 97218 by disk or paper,
the same rules apply, with one added one, in addition to a SASE, please let
us know if the manuscript is disposable, or you wish it returned. Even
submitting snail mail, you will be asked to send it e-mail if accepted, or
by disk. We can scan it through, but this can result in errors taking
it through a OCR program.
We
are saddened by the loss of our former Horror Editor: Geof Lucier, and wish
him the best in all his endevors. Geof you will be missed
horribly!
Finally,
keep watch at the top of this page for new pages entered and when the issue
is totally up. Once we have established the zine again, we will add in the
chats and other new features! All new updates will be dated, so you know
which are the mos recent.
