The Legend of Hiro:

The Chosen Five

Chapter 4 - Wild Wild West (Of Hyrule)

Written by Blues Wolfox with help and character contributions from SFRusher and Dracos

The desert area known as Gerudo Valley was unusually busy. After the dark magic had filled the sky, the gerudos sent two of their best scouts to locate the source of the magic. The scouts were unsuccessful in finding out what created the magic, but they did see the seemingly lifeless bodies of the kokiri and the gorons. They informed their leader, Malora, of their findings. Malora, fearing that her people would suffer the same fate, commanded the strongest gerudos to block the entrance to the valley. The few gerudos that were in the valley and weren’t working on sealing the entrance were guarding the fortress.

Fenora, who was currently helping another gerudo push a large stone toward the valley’s entrance, stopped for a moment to wipe the sweat off her brow. “Farrah’s lucky she doesn’t have to do this…”

“Where is that girl anyway?” the gerudo that was pushing the stone with Fenora asked. “I haven’t seen her in awhile…”

“Last I knew she was in the Desert Colossus,” Fenora answered.

“Again?” The gerudo shook her head. “She really likes it there…”

Fenora shrugged. “I think she only goes there so she won’t have to deal with Malora.”

The other gerudo laughed. “Those two have never been able to get along, have they?”

Fenora shook her head. “I guess it’s to be expected, though. I can’t get along with my aunt very well either.”

“I love my aunt. Its my mother I have a problem with,” Fenora’s companion replied as the two rolled the stone to entrance and left it for the gerudos in charge of creating the seal to handle. She looked up at the top of the barricade. “Think we’ll need any more rocks?”

Fenora watched as three gerudos dragged the boulder to the top of the newly created rock wall. “I don’t think so.”

“I hope not,” the other gerudo replied, “Those things are as heavy as—”

“Hey, you two!” Malora ran toward the two women.

Fenora watched the gerudo leader as she approached. “Is something wrong?”

“Have either of you seen Farrah?” Malora asked the women.

“She went into the Col—” Fenora’s companion started.

Fenora cupped her hand over the other gerudo’s mouth. “Nope, haven’t seen her.”

“Don’t lie to me.” The gerudo leader glared at Fenora. “She went into the Colossus again, didn’t she?” Malora sighed. “That girl…” She shook her head and ran toward the entrance to the Colossus.

Fenora glared at her companion as the gerudo leader ran off. “Nice going, Siira.”

“What?” Siira looked at Fenora. “Its not like she’s in big trouble or anything.”

Fenora sighed. “If Farrah kills you, I am going to laugh my head off.” She started to walk away.

“Where are you going?” Fenora’s companion asked.

“Away from you!” Fenora snapped. She resumed walking back to the fortress.

“Yes! Finally made it!” Hiro exclaimed as he approached the entrance to Gerudo Valley. As he got closer, he noticed it was blocked. ‘Darn! Now how am I gonna find the Chosen of the Desert?’ He looked up at the top of the block. ‘Maybe I can climb…’ He started to climb up the barricade. He managed to get one third of the way before he fell back to the ground.

“Ouch!” The prince rubbed the back of his head and stood up. ‘This is going to be tough…’

Meanwhile, Mikon continued rolling through Hyrule Field toward Gerudo Valley. Kale ran not close behind the goron, laughing at the still red-faced Aylia, who was chasing him. Mila hovered around the warriors.

“Kale, I swear if you tell you’re going to be a dead man!” The kokiri shouted at the zora as they ran.

“You have to catch me first!” Kale sped up.

Then, Mikon stopped suddenly and stood up. Unable to stop, the other travelers crashed into his back.

“Ow…” Kale stood up slowly. He looked at Mikon as the others got up. “What was that all about?”

Mikon pointed to the bare ground that sloped upward in front of them. “We’re close.”

Aylia walked up the slope, followed by the others. “Ummm… Why’s the way blocked.”

“Good question.” The man Mikon and Aylia fought at Kakariko approached them.

“Prince Hiro!” The kokiri grinned at the man. “Any luck getting in?”

“That’s the prince?” Kale looked at the man in disbelief.

Aylia nodded. “Yep! He’s helping us find the other warriors.”

Hiro looked at the zora. “Who might you be?”

“My name’s Kale,” Kale introduced himself, “Not to sound rude, but shouldn’t you be protecting the castle?”

“If the warriors aren’t found soon, there won’t be a castle to protect,” the prince replied. “Or a Hyrule, for that matter…”

“Hey guys?” Aylia looked up at the hylian and the zora. “We REALLY need to get into Gerudo Valley. Any ideas on how we can get through?”

“Your goron friend could punch through the roadblock,” Hiro suggested.

Mikon glanced at the block. “Think I should?”

“Go for it,” Kale answered. “I can’t think of anything else.”

“Okay.” Mikon bunched the barricade, but did little more than dent the rock his hand had made contact with.

“You’re not going to get in that way.” A voice called from behind the group.

Everyone looked back at the source of the voice.

“Isn’t that Darunia?” Aylia whispered to Mikon.

The goron nodded. “Yep, that’s him.”

Darunia stepped in front of the group. “Stand back. I’ll take care of this.”

“What’s he going to do?” Kale wondered.

“I don’t know, but you’d better back up a bit,” Mikon advised, taking a few steps back.

The others followed suit and stood a few yards behind the Fire Sage, who pulled a bomb out of a bag he was carrying.

Darunia grinned as he lit the bomb. “Take THIS!” He tossed the bomb at the roadblock, then lit another and tossed it. He continued lighting and tossing bombs with a huge grin on his face. “Yeah baby! Lookit ‘em go!”

The warriors and prince stared at Darunia as if he had lost his mind.

“He must really enjoy blowing things up…” Kale replied as he watched the Fire Sage.

“Must be a goron thing,” Hiro replied.

“Heeeyyy….” Mikon looked down at the prince.

“Ummm… Not to say that’s a bad thing, of course.” The prince smiled weakly at the goron.

Aylia giggled at Mikon and Hiro and watched as the smoke died down, revealing an open path.

“The path can’t get much clearer than that,” Darunia stated. He looked down at the kokiri. “Aylia, your sister told me to tell you to return to the forest once the Desert Warrior is awakened.”

Aylia nodded. “Thanks, Darunia.”

The Fire Sage nodded, transformed into a ball of red light, and disappeared.

Kale blinked. “How did he do that?”

“Sage magic,” the kokiri and goron replied in unison.

Hiro looked at Aylia and Mikon. “Okay you two, that was freaky…”

The kokiri giggled. The goron chuckled.

“What are we waiting out here for?” Kale asked. “Let’s go already!” He started across the path to Gerudo Valley.

“Hold it!”

The prince, the fairy, and the warriors turned to look at the person that just shouted at them.

Nabooru walked to the group. “No one but the kokiri girl and her fairy’s gonna make it into the valley looking like that.”

“What do you mean?” Aylia asked the gerudo.

“The gerudo aren’t very fond of men,” Nabooru answered.

“Hmmm…” Hiro mused. “That could be a problem.”

“I have a way to sneak you guys in,” the Spirit Sage replied. “I doubt you’ll like it but we don’t have much choice.”

“What is it?” Mikon asked.

“Follow me,” Nabooru walked to the south of the entrance to Gerudo Valley.

The warriors, fairy, and prince followed the gerudo into a small cave.

Nabooru walked to the back of the room and opened a large box. “Okay, I need the zora first.”

Kale took a few steps toward the Spirit Sage. “What for?”

Nabooru held up a long blue dress. “Put this on and see if it fits.”

The zora gave the gerudo a strange look. “You’re not serious.”

“Dead serious,” Nabooru replied. She gave the dress to Kale. “Put it on. That’s an order.”

“There is NO WAY I’m wearing this!” The Chosen of the Lake looked at the dress with disgust.

Aylia looked up at Kale. “Please? You won’t have to wear it for very long. Just until we find the next warrior and leave.”

The zora looked down at the kokiri. He sighed. “Fine…” He slipped the dress over his head. “Let’s hurry up and get this over with, all right?”

Aylia giggled. “That dress suits you.”

“Aylia, don’t make this harder on the poor guy!” Mila scolded. “He’s embarrassed enough…”

“I don’t think so.” Hiro laughed.

Just then, a lacy pink dress landed on the prince’s head.

Hiro pulled the dress off his head and looked at it. “No!”

“Hey, if I have to suffer this punishment, so do you!” Kale stuck his tongue out at the hylian. He looked at Mikon. “Hey, why doesn’t Goron Boy have to wear a dress?”

“His is coming,” Nabooru answered as she dug through the box. “Ah, here!” She pulled a large white dress out of the box and tossed it at Mikon. “See is that fits.”

“Okay.” Mikon slipped the dress on over his head and looked at himself. “I have a question…”

“What is it?” The Spirit Sage looked up at the goron.

“Does this dress make me look fat?” Mikon asked.

Aylia and Hiro laughed hysterically at the goron’s question. Mila sighed and shook her head.

“Mikon, you’re a goron. You look fat in EVERYTHING,” Kale answered.

“Oh,” Mikon replied, “Okay then.”

“Mikon does NOT look fat!” The Forest Warrior yelled at the zora.

“I’m sure he doesn’t to those that have a crush on him.” Kale smirked.

Aylia’s face turned bright red.

The goron raised an eyebrow at the kokiri girl. “You have a crush on me?”

Aylia looked down. “Kinda…sorta…yeah…”

“Wow…” Mikon replied.

“You two can talk about that later. Right now, you’ve got a mission to complete.” Nabooru pulled one more dress, a small yellow/green one, out of the box and handed it to the kokiri. “The others are wearing dresses, so you probably should as well.”

“Aw man!” Aylia looked at the dress, then up at the Spirit Sage. “Do I HAVE to?”

“Yes,” the gerudo answered.

Kale laughed at the kokiri. “Sorry Aylia, but you don’t look feminine enough to pass as a girl either.”

“Sure she does,” Mikon replied. “I could tell she was female.”

The Chosen of the Lake smirked. “Well if a goron can tell, I guess it’s pretty obvious.”

“Hey, we’re not THAT dumb…” The Mountain Warrior said to the zora.

“He’s not dumb at all.” Aylia stuck her tongue out at the zora.

Nabooru sighed and looked up. “Why did the goddesses pick this group?”

Hiro looked down at the kokiri. “Shouldn’t you be putting that dress on?”

“You should be putting yours on, too!” Aylia stuck her tongue out at the prince before slipping her dress on over her head.

“Not yet…” The Spirit Sage pulled two padded bras and some extra cloth out of the box. She handed the bras to the prince and the zora.

“No way…” Kale looked at the bra. “I am not even TOUCHING that thing!”

“Put it on…NOW!” The gerudo glared at the zora and hylian, who exchanged glances before hurriedly strapping the bras on themselves and stuffing.

“Why doesn’t Mikon get one?” Kale asked as he finished stuffing.

“Mikon’s are big enough already,” the Spirit Sage replied.

Mikon chuckled at the gerudo’s comment. Aylia blushed deeply.

Hiro put the dress on. “This is the LAST time I EVER do this! Even for a sage!” He started to walk out. “Well, let’s go…”

“You’re not ready yet,” Nabooru said to the prince.

“What else do we need?” Hiro asked the Spirit Sage.

Nabooru pulled a small bag out of the box and dug through it, setting several containers of lipstick, eyeshadow, blush, mascara, and other kinds of makeup down on the ground near her.

The prince’s eyes widened in horror. “Oh dear sweet gosh NO!”

“I am going to hate myself so much for this…” Kale said to himself as he watched the gerudo lay the cosmetics out in front of her.

“It’ll be over soon,” Mila said as she hovered next to the zora.

“I hope so…” Kale sighed.

“All right, you guys.” Nabooru looked around at the group. “Who wants to be first?”

“Mikon does,” the zora volunteered the goron.

“Yeah, the goron likes dressing up as a girl,” Hiro stated.

Mikon shrugged. “I guess I want to be first…Heh…”

Nabooru walked to the goron with a few tubes of red lipstick and two containers of dark pink blush in her hands. “Hold still. I can’t put this on you if you move around.”

“Okay,” Mikon replied.

Nabooru opened one of the tubes of lipstick and proceeded to apply it to the goron’s lips.

Kale looked at Hiro. “Betcha fifty rupees Goron Boy uses up three tubes of that stuff.”

The prince smirked at the zora. “You’re on!”

“You guys are mean!” Aylia stuck her tongue out at the two men.

“Don’t worry.” Nabooru smirked at Hiro and Kale. “They’re next.” The gerudo finished applying lipstick to Mikon’s lips. “Okay Mikon, now press your lips together.”

The goron did as Nabooru asked. “Am I done yet?”

“Almost.” The Spirit Sage brushed some blush on Mikon’s cheeks. “Okay, you’re done for now.” She looked at the prince and the zora. “Okay, which one of you wants to be next?”

“The prince does!” Kale and Mila answered at once.

“No I don’t!” Hiro exclaimed.

“You’re going to be made up eventually,” Aylia told the prince. “Might as well be now.”

“Come on, Hiro,” Nabooru looked at the hylian. “This isn’t much different than that war paint you usually wear.”

Hiro sighed and approached the Spirit Sage. “This sucks…”

“Watch your language!” Mila scolded the prince. “There’s children here!”

Aylia stuck her tongue out at the fairy. “Hey! I’m older than I look, you know.”

“Oh really?” Hiro looked down at the kokiri. “How old are you?”

“I’m fourteen,” Aylia answered.

The prince studied the kokiri for a moment. “You’re right… You are older than you look.”

Nabooru tapped her foot impatiently. “Hiro, are you gonna get over here now or do I have to tackle you and tie you up first?”

“I’m coming…” Hiro walked over to where the Spirit Sage was and sat down.

“Good boy.” Nabooru held a container of blue eyeshadow in her left hand. “Close your eyes.”

The prince closed his eyes. The gerudo began applying eyeshadow to his eyelids.

“Can I open my eyes yet?” Hiro asked once Nabooru stopped brushing his eyelids.

“Yes,” the gerudo answered as she brushed some blush on the prince’s cheeks, “But no more talking for a minute.” She finished with the blush and applied lipstick to Hiro’s lips. “Okay, press your lips together.”

Hiro did as he was told.

Nabooru painted Kale’s and Aylia’s faces, and then put all the makeup back in the box she had dug it out of.

“Can we go now?” The prince asked.

“Be patient. You’re almost ready.” Nabooru pulled four wigs and four pairs of shoes out of the box. She handed Hiro and each of the warriors a blonde wig and a pair of shoes that matched their dresses. “Put these on. THEN you can go.”

“I’m going to hate myself so much after this…” Kale muttered as he and the others put their wigs and shoes on.

“Its not like you’re not doing this for a good reason,” Mila replied.

“Yeah, but still…” The zora sighed.

The fairy flew to Kale’s shoulder and landed near his neck. “You won’t be dressed like a girl for long, then you shouldn’t have to go through with this again.”

“Hopefully…” the zora replied.

Hiro walked through the cave’s exit and waited for the warriors. “ Come on, guys! I want to get this over with…”

“Yeah, me too…” Kale exited the cave, followed by Mila.

Aylia looked up at Mikon, who seemed to be in no hurry to leave. “Don’t you want to hurry and find the next warrior so you can take all this off?”

“I dunno…” the goron replied. “This dress is pretty comfortable…”

“Move it, you two!” Nabooru started pushing Mikon and the kokiri girl out of the cave. “All of Hyrule is counting on you! You don’t have any time to waste!”

“Right,” Aylia replied as she and the Mountain Warrior exited the cave. She turned back to the gerudo. “Thanks for your help, Nabooru.”

The Spirit Sage nodded. “You’re welcome. Now get going!”

“You heard the lady, let’s go!” Hiro ran off in the direction of Gerudo Valley.

“I’m RIGHT behind you!” Kale ran after the prince.

The kokiri giggled, then looked at Mikon. “Let’s go. We don’t want to lose those two.”

The goron nodded. He and Aylia ran after Hiro and the zora.

“Hey! Don’t leave me behind!” Mila flew after the group.

The prince, fairy, and warriors reached the path leading into Gerudo valley and entered. They walked across the board over the small pond and started across the bridge leading to the fortress.

“Oh no…” Mikon looked down at the river that flowed swiftly under the group.

Aylia grabbed the goron’s hand. “Don’t worry. Just be careful and you won’t fall in.”

“How’d you get in here?” A voice shouted from behind the group.

The prince and the warriors spun around.

A young gerudo woman wearing a dark purple guard uniform walked up to the group, stopping a few feet in front of them. “I don’t know how you managed to get through the barricade, but you are not welcome here.”

Hiro stepped forward and tried to make his voice sound as feminine as possible. “Sorry, but we cannot leave. You see, my companions and I were told that this place is the next target for the dark god’s evil magic. We were sent here to make sure everyone here remains safe.”

The gerudo stared at the prince for a moment, and then shook her head. “We’re not taking any chances.”

“Neither are we.” Hiro punched the guard, knocking her out.

“That was uncalled for…” Mila stated as she watched the unconscious guard fall limply to the ground.

The prince shrugged. “We need to enter the valley, and she didn’t want to let us.”

The group continued across the bridge and through the desert toward Gerudo Fortress.

“This place kinda reminds me of Death Mountain…” Aylia said to herself as she and the others walked toward Gerudo Fortress.

Mikon looked down at the kokiri. “How so?”

“There aren’t very many plants,” Aylia answered. “None here that I see.”

Just then, two gerudo ran up to the group. The desert women pointed their spears at the warriors and the prince.

“You are not allowed in here,” the gerudo on the left said to the group.

“If you leave now we MAY spare your lives,” the gerudo on the right added.

“We must stay. We’re here on a mission from the Princess,” Hiro said to the gerudo.

The gerudo on the left looked at Hiro skeptically. “I don’t believe that for one second.”

“I can prove it.” Hiro pulled his ocarina out from under his dress and played the melody of the Royal Family.

“She knows the Royal Family’s medley. They must be from the castle,” the gerudo on the right whispered to her partner.

“Should we let them go, then?” the gerudo on the right asked.

“I think we should take them to see Malora,” the gerudo on the left answered.

“Good idea,” the gerudo on the right agreed.

The warriors, prince, and fairy watched the two gerudo, waiting to see what their decision would be.

The gerudo on the right nodded to the fortress. “Follow us. We’ll take you to see our leader. If you really were sent here from the royal family, she would know about it.”

“We don’t have time for all this!” Kale exclaimed, “Listen, you people have NO idea how urgent this is…”

“It wouldn’t be so urgent if you girls hadn’t destroyed the seal keeping the dark god out of our valley!” The gerudo on the right glared at the group.

“He could have found a way past that easily, especially since it was so weak a few bombs could destroy it,” Aylia informed the gerudos.

“The kokiri is right,” A voice came from the right of the group.

The warriors, prince, fairy, and gerudo turned toward the source of the voice. Link was standing on a nearby boulder, smirking at the hyrulians.

“You!” Hiro glared at the possessed Hero of Time.

“Ah, so you remember me.” Link smirked at the prince.

“Is that the dark god?” Aylia thought out loud as she stared at the possessed hylian.

“Yes,” Hiro answered with a growl. He stepped toward Link. “What are you doing here?”

“Paying a visit to my favorite hyrulian race, what else?” Link answered with a smirk.

The two gerudo that had stopped the group charged toward the dark god, their spears aimed at the evil being’s chest.

“Stop! You don’t want to do that!” Hiro shouted at the gerudo as they charged.

The dark god chuckled as the gerudo approached. “Foolish women…” He sent a large ball of black energy toward the two gerudo. The black energy hit both desert women full force and sent them flying several yards away from the group.

“Eee…” Kale watched wide-eyed as the gerudo were thrown back by the possessed hylian’s attack. “And we have to fight him?”

“I guess…” Aylia replied as she drew her sword.

The dark god chuckled at the kokiri. “You can’t be thinking about fighting me, foolish girl.”

Just then, several leevers rose out from under the stand and spun toward the heroes.

“Is that all?” Aylia smirked at the dark god. “Mikon could squish those easily!”

“You think so?” The dark god smirked back. “I guess we’ll have to wait and see.”

The leevers then spun into each other, forming an asterisk-shaped monster with several segments.

“That still doesn’t look too tough,” Kale thought out loud as he and the others watched the monsters combine.

The leevers then stretched until their tops were six feet above the ground.

“If you manage to survive this battle, I will be waiting for you at the castle. You can die here, or there.” The dark god let out an evil laugh and disappeared. As he disappeared, the ground shook and a dark cloud hovered over the valley. The gerudos near the group fell to their knees, then to the ground as the black magic overcame them.

“You two just HAD to open your big mouths…” Hiro sighed.

“That monster’s a master leever,” Mila informed the group. “Be careful, its fast.”

Aylia charged at the monster, sword drawn.

“Aylia, that may not be the smartest thing to do…” Kale called to the kokiri.

If Aylia heard the zora, she didn’t show it. She slashed at the master leever as she approached.

The master leever screeched and spun rapidly into the kokiri, sending her flying back into Mikon.

“Aylia!” The goron caught the Forest Warrior and set her down gently. “You all right?”

“I think so…” The kokiri stared up at the master leever. “This is gonna be tough…”

“You got that right…” Kale sighed.

Farrah the gerudo ran across the haunted wasteland, barely feeling the sand beneath her feet as she raced toward Gerudo Fortress. She had been meditating near the spirit temple when something inside her told her to head back to the fortress.

The gerudo exited the fortress and gasped at what she saw. The other gerudo in the area were lying in various places on the ground.

Farrah kneeled next to the nearest gerudo and checked her for a pulse. There was one, but it was barely noticeable.

‘So whatever’s been attacking the other parts of Hyrule has finally reached here…’ The gerudo thought to herself. She stood up, dusted the sand off her clothes, and looked around. ‘Now, what am I to do about all this?’

Then, she saw a group of woman of different races fighting a monster that somewhat resembled a leever.

Farrah ran up to the diverse group. “Need some help?”

“We might,” Kale answered. He raised his arms up, preparing to throw his fins at the monster.

The master leever spun rapidly toward the group. Mikon tried to roll into the leever, but it quickly moved out of his way.

The gerudo watched the goron, who didn’t seem to notice that his wig had fallen off or that his dress was now torn in several places from the roll. She looked toward the rest of the group. “You people aren’t who you’re pretending to be…”

“We’ll explain everything later,” Aylia said to Farrah. “Let’s destroy this thing first.”

“Just let me handle it.” Farrah drew her scimitars and leapt at the master leever.

The monster moved to the side as the gerudo leapt at it, then attempted to speed into her. Farrah landed where the leever had been, then jumped straight up as the monster approached.

The gerudo landed on top of the monster. “Nice move, but you have to be a LOT faster than that to hurt me!” She raised her scimitars over her head. “You seem to wanna dish out pain, now let’s see how well you can take it!” She jumped off the leever and sliced down at it vertically, splitting it into three parts.

“That wasn’t so tough,” Farrah said to herself as the three parts of the master leever burrowed into the ground.

“I don’t think its over yet…” Aylia replied.

“What do you mean?” The gerudo looked down at the kokiri. “You saw that thing retreat.”

“The other monsters we fought had to be defeated a certain way…” Aylia answered. “You just sliced this one…”

“You’ve fought other monsters like that leever mutant?” Farrah asked.

“Well, not EXACTLY like the leever…” Aylia said. “They were stronger forms of other monsters. One was a deku baba, one was a dodongo, and one was an octorok.”

“Ah…” The gerudo replied.

“Ummm… Guys? I hate to interrupt your conversation, but you may want to move…” Mila advised.

Mikon, Aylia, and Kale obeyed the fairy and took a few steps away from the area they were standing on.

Hiro looked up at the fairy. “Why should we move?”

Farrah noticed the ground tremble slightly beneath her feet. ‘That’s not good…’ She pushed the prince out of the way and jumped back as the master leever rose out of the sand where the group had been standing.

“That’s why,” Mila answered Hiro as the master leever emerged from the ground.

The monster spun in place rapidly. The leevers on the master leever that were attached to its center bent down halfway, giving the monster a larger circumference. The center leever bent down slightly and sprayed a black liquid at Hiro, who leapt aside. The liquid dissolved the sand the prince had been standing on, leaving a black crater in its place.

Hiro’s eyes widened in shock. “Eee… This guy’s NASTY!”

The master leever turned away from the group and aimed at a gerudo that was laying near-lifeless not far from the group.

Farrah’s eyes widened in horror, then filled with rage. Without thinking, the sped in front of the monster and sliced downward at its top. The master leever spun away, barely avoiding the blades.

“No one attacks my people and gets away with it, you hear me? NO ONE!” The gerudo’s body emitted a faint orange glow as she spoke. The glow became brighter as she raised her scimitars. She distanced herself from the monster with a backflip, then leapt toward it, aiming her scimitars at the monster as she approached. The two swords began to glow a bright orange color as Farrah sliced downward into the master leever. She continued to slice at the monster, cutting it apart faster than it could form back together, until it was little more than a mostly flat mess on the sand.

Aylia watched wide-eyed as the monster was killed and its remains began to dissolve. “That was awesome…”

The gerudo smiled at the kokiri. “That was NOTHING, kid.” She glanced at the males in the group. “Now, tell me who you are and why you felt it important to trespass.”

“My name’s Aylia,” the Forest Warrior introduced herself. “The goron is Mikon, the fairy is Mila, the zora is Kale, and the hylian is Prince Hiro. Mikon, Kale, and I are three of five warriors that are supposed to help the prince stop the dark god.”

“Oh really?” Farrah looked at Hiro skeptically. “If you’re really the prince, then what are you doing outside the castle?”

“Helping the warriors,” Hiro replied, “Duh!”

“Shouldn’t you be protecting the castle?” The gerudo questioned.

“This is a little more important than a single stone building, even if that building is my home,” the prince answered.

“I still don’t believe you,” Farrah replied.

Hiro growled. “What do you want me to do? Play the melody of the royal family?”

“Do you know it?” The gerudo asked.

The prince put his ocarina to his lips and played Zelda’s Lullaby.

“I guess so…” Farrah stated after hearing the song. “Well, I guess I can play along for now, but I’d like to know why everyone’s dressed up.”

“Nabooru thought we’d have an easier time getting through the guards if they thought we were all women…” Hiro answered.

“She was right there…” the gerudo replied. “So, you’ve done what you need to here, right? If so, you’d best leave before I throw you out!”

“We are now, and you need to come with us,” Aylia answered.

“What for?” Farrah looked down at the kokiri.

“You’re one of us. The Chosen of the Desert!” Aylia answered.

“What makes you think THAT?” The gerudo questioned.

“Well… Didn’t you see that light that surrounded you before you killed that monster?” The kokiri asked.

Farrah shook her head. “No.”

“Well, look at all the other gerudo.” Mila motioned toward the fortress. “You’re the only one conscious.”

“Yeah? I’m probably also the only one that wasn’t here when all this happened,” the gerudo replied.

“Forget her, guys. Let’s just go.” Hiro started walking toward the valley’s exit.

Aylia walked after the prince. “But Hiro, we can’t succeed without all the warriors.”

“She’s not willing so we’ll have to try.” Hiro continued to walk.

“But Hiro--” Aylia started.

“You heard him. There’s nothing more we can do here.” Kale walked after the prince.

“Hey, wait for me!” Mila flew after the hylian and the zora.

“Come on, Aylia.” Mikon took the kokiri’s hand and led her away from the gerudo.

The warriors, prince and fairy made it out of Gerudo Valley and a short distance across Hyrule Field when a familiar shout stopped them.

“I knew she’d come to her senses,” Hiro said quietly as Farrah approached.

The gerudo stopped in front of the prince. “I still don’t think I’m this Desert Warrior or whatever it is you claim I am, but I guess I don’t have anything to lose by helping you out.”

“Glad you decided to join.” Aylia smiled at Farrah.

The gerudo nodded to the kokiri. “So, what’s the next stop?”

“Saria wanted us to meet her in the forest,” Aylia answered.

Well, the sooner we get this done and over with, the better,” Farrah replied. “So let’s go already!”

“I agree, let’s go!” Kale took off toward the forest.

“Betcha I can get there before you!” Hiro shouted at the zora and ran after him.

“All right! A race!” Mikon curled himself into a ball and rolled after the prince and the Lake Warrior.
