It was a beautiful summer night in the Sacred Forest Meadow. The stars that were not blocked out by the surrounding trees shone brightly overhead. The moon, which was large and full this night, floated directly above the Forest Temple, bathing the ancient building in its pale golden light.
A kokiri girl that looked to be about nine years old say on the tree stump in front of the Forest Temple, staring down at a tan-colored ocarina that rested in the palms of her hands. The kokiri girl had short green hair that was held back away from her face by a dark green headband. Her hair went behind and under her ears, meeting with the sides of her face. Her bangs were swept toward away from her eyes and toward the left side of her face. Her eyes were large and sapphire blue in color. She wore a bright green turtleneck with dark green sleeves and a dark green neck, green shorts, dark green boots, and a dark green belt with a bright green buckle. This girl was Saria, and she was no ordinary kokiri. She had no fairy to serve as her guardian. She lost her fairy when she became the Forest Sage. She, along with six other sages, including Princess Zelda, had helped the Hero of Time defeat Gannon and restore peace to Hyrule.
Now that the evil known as Gannon was gone, one would expect the people of Hyrule to be happy. The other inhabitants of the land may still be rejoicing, but there was only sadness in Sarias heart.
Saria? A male kokiri that looked to be the same age as the Forest Sage walked toward the kokiri girl. The boy had short red hair that was slicked back. The tufts of hair poked out from under the front of the boys triangle-shaped green hat and fell at an angle toward his left eye, stopping above his nose and eyebrow. His eyes were medium-sized and had the same blue color as the female kokiris. On each of the kokiri boys cheeks was a brown oval-shaped mark. His upper lip protruded slightly above his lower lip. He wore a green sleeveless shirt with a white sleeveless shirt underneath it, green shorts that were tattered at the kneecaps, and short green boots. This boy was none other than Mido, the leader of the kokiri. Hovering around him was a female green fairy, his guardian.
Saria barely glanced up at the kokiri boy. Oh Hi Mido
Mido walked until he was in front of the kokiri girl. Youre not still thinking about Link, are you?
Saria nodded, tears forming in the corners of her eyes.
The male kokiri sighed. You need to get him out of your mind. Hes only making you upset.
I know the Forest Sage replied, But I cant help it I miss him so much
Saria Mido wrapped an arm around the kokiri girls shoulders. You know what you need? A boyfriend. Then you can forget all about Link and be your usual happy self.
Saria looked up at her friend. Maybe youre right But who in this forest likes me THAT way?
Mido gazed into the kokiri girls eyes.
Saria caught on. Mido
Just give me a chance, the kokiri boy pleaded, Ill show you that Im better than Link could ever be.
The Forest Sage thought for a moment. Oh Mido Of course Ill go out with you!
Mido smiled at Saria. Ive been waiting a long time for this He slowly leaned toward his now-girlfriend to kiss her.
BAM!!!
A violent jolt caused Mido to awaken from his dream right before he had a chance to kiss the Forest Sage. The kokiri boy looked around, but was only able to catch a glimpse of a shadow as something ran out of his house.
What was that?! Mido exclaimed as he looked around.
Your bestest best friend in the whole world decided to pay you a visit, the kokiri leaders fairy replied.
Mido looked up at the fairy. Dont tell me
Ha ha ha! That should teach him to make me pull out the weeds in front of Sarias house after he promised her that he would do it! A voice just outside the kokiri leaders house laughed.
Mido growled as he recognized the voice. Dirk
Dirk was a young kokiri that Mido did not get along with. Dirk loved to pick on the boss of the kokiri for no apparent reason. Mido retaliated by making the other kokiri boy the main target of his bullying. There was rarely a moment when the two kokiri boys got along.
Dirk! Mido ran out of his house to scream at Dirk, but the kokiri boy was nowhere to be found.
He ran that way. A blue-eyed kokiri with short blonde hair that was tied back in two round pigtails pointed toward the Lost Woods from where she was standing on a nearby pillar. Like the other kokiri girls, the blonde kokiri wore a green sleeveless dress that was fastened to her waist by a belt and knee-high brown boots. She also wore a dark green headband in her hair.
Crud! Curse you, Fala! Shouted a voice from somewhere near the entrance to the Lost Woods.
Dirk, a blue-eyed kokiri boy with spiky green hair, ran into the Lost Woods. Dirk wore a green short-sleeved shirt, baggy green pants, and short green boots. He had a small sword that he fondly referred to as the Kokiri Blade and a deku shield strapped to his back.
Mido chased the green-haired kokiri boy through the Lost Woods in the direction of the Sacred Forest Meadow, finally catching up to him about halfway through the woods. The kokiri leader tackled Dirk, forcing the other kokiri boy to fall face-first onto the ground.
Mido rolled Dirk on his back and raised his fist in the air, preparing to punch the green-haired boy in the face.
Dirk moved the upper half of his body to the left side as the kokiri leader brought his fist down on the ground where the green-haired boys nose had been. Dirk kicked Mido away from him and leapt to his feet.
The boss of the kokiri punched at the green-haired kokiri boy, this time hitting him in the chest.
Dirk growled at Mido and raised his arm to karate chop the red-haired kokiris neck.
Stop it! BOTH of you! Saria ran between the two boys.
Saria, MOVE! Mido shouted at the kokiri girl as Dirks hand came down on her shoulder. The Forest Sage winced and grabbed where she had been hit.
The boss of the kokiri gave Saria a concerned look then glared at the green-haired boy. You idiot! Why didnt you stop?!
I couldnt Dirk looked at the Forest Sage worriedly. You okay, Saria?
Yeah, Im fine Saria managed to smile at the kokiri boys. The Forest Sage sighed. I really wish you two wouldnt fight so much
Its HIS fault! Mido glared at the green-haired kokiri boy.
Its not my fault youre a jerk! Dirk stuck his tongue out at the kokiri leader.
The Forest Sage glanced at the green-haired kokiri boy. Hey Dirk, I talked to Link earlier. He says hes coming over for a visit soon. Why dont you go meet him at the entrance?
Dirk nodded and ran away from Mido and Saria toward Kokiri Village.
Good riddance! The boss of the kokiri glared after the green-haired boy.
The kokiri girl looked at Mido. You really shouldnt let him get to you...
Hmph! The kokiri leader looked away from Saria. All he does is try to make my life miserable!
The kokiri girl sighed. You two have been fighting for as long as I can remember. I wish you could resolve your conflict and live a semi-peaceful life, at least
Thats not likely to happen, knowing him, Mido replied.
Thats not likely to happen knowing EITHER of you Saria thought with a sigh. She gazed in the direction Dirk had gone, and then turned to Mido. Im going to go greet Link. You wanna come?
Mido shrugged. Sure, I guess.
Great! The Forest Sage grinned at the kokiri boy. Race ya! She took off running down the path leading to the Kokiri Forest.
Hey, waitaminute! Mido ran after the kokiri girl.
Link watched the land before him closely as Epona carried him from Lon Lon Ranch through Hyrule Field toward Kokiri Forest. Since he married Malon four months ago, he had been kept too busy to go anywhere besides Hyrule Castle and Kakariko Village, and even those visits were because he had to deliver milk there. Today, he got up extra early so he could finish his chores and still have enough time to visit his old friends.
Just like old times, right girl? The hylian smiled as he strokes the horses neck. Epona neighed in response and continued galloping toward the forest, slowing down as soon as she passed the large trees that marked the entrance and finally stopping when the spaces between the trees became too narrow for her to proceed.
Link hopped off the horses back and patted her shoulder before running between the trees and across the bridge leading into the village area of the forest.
Link, wazzap! Dirk greeted as the hylian approached.
Hey, Dirk! Link smiled at the kokiri boy. Wheres
Yahoo! Hi Link!
The hylians head snapped in the direction of the Lost Woods upon hearing his best friends familiar greeting.
Saria jumped off the ledge in front of the entrance to the Lost Woods and ran up to Link, with Mido following close behind.
The Hero of Time grinned as the two kokiri approached. Saria, hey! He looked behind Saria at Mido. Hi, Mido!
Hmph! The kokiri leader looked away from the hylian.
Link chuckled mentally at the red-haired kokiri boy. He knew Mido did not dislike him, but after several years of tormenting the young hylian, it was hard to act any other way.
Mido, you could be a little nicer, the kokiri girl scolded. We dont get to see Link very often anymore.
Whatever. You guys do what you want. Ive got important business to tend to! The boss of the kokiri walked off toward the opposite end of the forest.
I wish hed act more friendly toward people Saria sighed.
Hes nicer than he used to be, Link replied.
Yeah. I think hes mellowed out somewhat in his old age. Dirk smirked.
The Hero of Time looked down at the Forest Sage. Why dont we go back to your place and talk for a bit? Im sure Ive missed a lot since I was last here.
Saria nodded. Sure thing, Link! She glanced at the green-haired kokiri boy. You wanna come too?
Dirk shook his head. Ive gotta get some last-minute training in so I have a chance to beat Link in our next spar. He ran off toward the Lost Woods. See ya!
Looks like its just you and me, Link said to the Forest Sage as the kokiri boy ran off.
Saria nodded. Just like old times.
So Shall we go? the hylian asked.
Yes, the kokiri girl replied. The two friends walked along the path to Sarias house.
Mido sat cross-legged against a tree in the narrow path between the village area of the Kokiri Forest and the clearing where the Great Deku Tree sprout resided. No one was allowed to enter the Great Deku Tree sprouts clearing besides Saria, Link, and Mido and Saria and Link were busy so no one would bother the kokiri leader, not even Dirk.
The boss of the kokiri sighed. Ever since Link first arrived in the forest, everything was centered on him. Saria made it obvious that she would rather spend time with that hylian then with him. Even the Great Deku Tree has summoned Link before Mido, and Mido was the leader of the kokiri! What was Link? Nothing! Or so the red-haired kokiri had thought at the time. Mido had since forgiven the hylian and apologized for being mean to him, but it still hurt to see the girl he loved make more of a fuss about Link than she ever would about him.
Mido looked back toward the main area of the Kokiri Forest. Should I go back? He thought for a minute. Nah, theyll be okay without me for awhile He closed his eyes and relaxed. He would return when he was feeling better.
So then, Mido runs out of his house and Dirk tosses the bucket of mud at him, Saria giggled. She and Link were sitting at the table in Sarias room, telling each other what the other had missed.
Mido was completely covered, the kokiri girl continued. He ALMOST looked like a redead!
The hylian laughed. Those two So what did Mido do?
He made Dirk cut the grass in front of everyones houses for a week, Saria answered. He also made Dirk wash all his clothes.
I bet Dirk knows not to do that again, Link replied.
Yeah The kokiri girl looked up at her friend. Whats been going on at the ranch?
Not much, other than the usual chores and waking Talon up every ten minutes, Link answered. He thought for a moment. There was that one time when all the cuccos escaped, though Took me and Malon forever to get them back.
Saria laughed. I would have loved to see that
The hylian chuckled. Never a dull moment around there, thats for sure He looked down at the kokiri. Who are you seeing now? Anyone?
Saria shook her head. Not yet. I havent found anyone that I like that way
What about Darunia? Link joked.
The Forest Sage laughed. Hes nice and a great friend, but even if I did like him, hes a fellow sage. We cant mix our bloodlines for fear of canceling out one of our powers. Thats kinda why Ruto and Zelda werent allowed to marry you, only youre the Hero of Time and not a sage.
The hylian nodded. Well, Saria, Im sure youll find someone someday.
Saria sighed. I hope so
I know so. Link smiled at his friend. He stood up. Dirk wanted to spar with me so Id better go meet up with him. You gonna be okay by yourself?
The kokiri nodded and smiled back. Ill be fine. Have fun!
Thanks. Well, see you later, Saria. The Hero of Time exited Sarias house and walked off toward the Lost Woods.
Saria watched her friend leave, and then stood up. I think Ill go to the temple and play my ocarina for awhile She transformed into a ball of green light and flew off toward the Forest Temple.
Later, elsewhere in the forest
Mido yawned as he awoke from his nap.
That was a nice rest. I feel MUCH better He stretched and stood up. The kokiri leader noticed that the sky was getting dark. Ive been gone for a pretty long time Maybe I should head back He started to walk back to the village area of the forest.
I wonder if Saria and Link are done talking yet Mido thought to himself as he approached Sarias house. He walked through the door. The house was empty. Hm Maybe shes in the forest. He exited his crushs home and walked off toward the Lost Woods.
Hyah! Dirk kiaied as he leapt toward Link, his sword raised. He and the hylian had been sparring for well over an hour, but neither was showing signs of fatigue.
Link blocked the kokiris attack with his shield and threw him to the forest floor. The hylian smirked at the green-haired boy. Dont tell me thats as good as you can do! He started to charge at Dirk, but stopped when he realized how late it was. Crud!
What? What happened?! The kokiri looked up at Link.
Malons gonna skin me alive The Hero of Time replied. He looked down at Dirk. You dont mind if we finish this some other time, do you? Thanks. Bye! He ran off before the kokiri could answer.
Umm Okay, sure. No problem Dirk stared after the hylian as he hurried out of the forest.
Meanwhile, a tall young woman with long red hair and bright blue eyes stared to the west as if waiting for someone. The woman noticed a movement in the distance and watched as two familiar shapes drew closer to the ranch.
Link, where have you been?! The woman demanded as she ran up to her husband, who was riding toward the ranch on Eponas back.
Hero of Time dismounted his horse and allowed her to run through the gate into the ranch. Sorry, Malon. I kinda lost track of time
The ranch girl ran behind Link and started pushing him through the gate. Well dont just stand there, get going! Youve got an important visitor!
The hero speed-walked into the ranch. Visitor? Who?
Hello, Link. A familiar-looking blonde-haired, blue-eyed woman greeted Link as he approached. From her ears hung two gold triangle-shaped earrings and she wore a royal gown that seemed very out of place in Links and Malons humble ranch home.
Zelda? The male hylian stared in disbelief. What are you doing here? I mean, its an honor and all, but this is unexpected
Zelda chuckled at Links surprised look, and then the expression on her face grew serious. Link, I need to talk to you
Sure thing, the hero replied. But lets go inside, where its a bit warmer.
The princess nodded and entered the house, followed by Link. The two walked upstairs into the room the male hylian and his wife shared and sat down on the bed.
So Whats on your mind, Princess? Link asked.
As I am sure you know, you and the sages, me included, are to continue our bloodlines is we wish to ensure Hyrules survival in the future, Zelda started.
The Hero of Time nodded.
The princess continued. You are married, I am engaged, and Darunia, Impa, and Rauru already have children
Impa has a kid? Link interrupted.
Zelda nodded. His name is Kasuto. He is about our age. You may have met him while you were in Kakariko. She continued. Nabooru and Ruto have each found someone as well, but I am worried about Saria
It isnt as important for Saria, is it? The male hylian asked. Kokiri dont die
The princess shook her head. They may not age, Link, but they can still die.
Link thought for a moment. Does Saria know she needs to have a kid?
She should know, yes, Zelda answered.
Hows she going to pull it off, anyway? the Hero of Time asked. Shes physically only nine years old
The other sages and I have been thinking about that, the princess replied, We will figure out something.
Link shrugged. If you say so.
Zelda stood up. I think I will pay Saria a visit.
If shes not home, shes in front of her temple playing her ocarina, the hero informed the princess.
Zelda nodded. Id best be going not. You and Malon have a good sleep.
Link nodded back and stood up. Take care, Princess.
You as well, Link. The princess said before disappearing in a ball of golden light.
Zelda reappeared on the triforce symbol in front of the Forest Temple. She looked to the right. Sure enough, there was Saria sitting on a tree stump with her ocarina to her lips. She was playing the song Link had once played to talk to her.
Ahem! The princess tried to get the Forest Sages attention, but the kokiri girl continued to play as if Zelda was not there.
The princess walked toward Saria and covered two of the holes in the ocarina that the kokiri was not currently using, creating a low note that did not fit the song.
Saria winced and opened her eyes. What was that?! She saw the hand on her ocarina and looked up. Princess Zelda! How long have you been here?
Not long, Zelda answered. Saria, you and I must talk
This involves me getting married, doesnt it? The kokiri sighed and lowered her gaze to the ground.
The princess nodded. I assume you know how important it is for you to produce an heir.
I know Saria replied. Id LOVE to start a family but I havent found the right guy just yet Even if I do find someone I like, look at me! She sighed. Im just as old as you or Link or anyone else, but no one would believe me if I told them that
I am sure someone would. Zelda smiled at the kokiri.
Saria kept her eyes fixed on the forest floor. I dont know, Zelda The only person Ive ever liked was Link, but it was clear from the start that he and I werent meant to be
There is someone out there, the princess reassured the kokiri. She looked up at the starlit sky. It is getting late Why dont you try to get some rest? We will discuss this again later.
I guess Saria replied.
Zelda smiled at the kokiri. Goodnight, Saria. With that, she transformed herself into a ball of gold light and disappeared.
The Forest Sage watched the princess leave. I guess I am feeling a bit tired maybe I should be heading to bed
As Saria stood up to leave, she felt an evil presence watching her.
The green-haired kokiri girl looked around. Whos there? She received no response. The Forest Sage grabbed a deku stick that was lying on the ground nearby and held it defensively in front of her. Show yourself!
Just then, the kokiri girl saw a shadow move between the trees to her right. The shadow circled around the trees surrounding the Forest Sage until it was directly in front of her. It then slowly approached the green-haired girl.
Saria gasped as the moonlight revealed the shadows monstrous appearance. The shadow was a beast that somewhat resembled a wolfos. The creatures head was as big as the Forest Sages entire body and its mouth looked like it could swallow her whole. The monsters wolf like ears lay flat against the top of its head and its eyes gleamed with an eerie yellow glow. The beasts body, which was large and round in front and considerably smaller near its hindquarters, was covered by long, thick, course, dark gray fur that stood on end, making the creature look larger and more menacing than it already did. Its tail was long and bushy and swished fiercely behind it. The monster had four long, thick legs that ended with four large, white paws. The beasts claws were long, razor-sharp black blades that looked like they could tear any creature open with ease. The creature started to drool as the distance between it and Saria decreased.
The kokiri pointed the deku stick at the monster threateningly. Stay where you are! Dont come any closer!
The creature responded by grabbing the stick between its large, yellow teeth and tossing it and the Forest Sage over its shoulder.
Saria collided into a tree, then landed hard on her left shoulder several yards away from the beast. The Forest Sage tried to stand up, but her legs refused to work. She wanted to cry; a huge monster was attacking her, the arm she had landed on was hurting immensely, and she could not move away, as the pain kept her from concentrating enough to use her sage powers and fly to safety.
Suddenly, the beast turned around and charged toward the kokiri girl.
Saria watched wide-eyed as the monster approached. What am I supposed to do now? she thought to herself.
She then saw a few deku nuts lying on the ground a few feet away. The Forest Sage used her good arm to pull herself slowly toward the deku nuts. The kokiri took one of the deku nuts and tossed it at the beast, which by now was only a few feet away. The deku nut hit the monster in the eye. The wolfos-like creature brought one paw to its eye and let out a pain-filled roar that could be heard throughout the entire forest.
Mido sighed in frustration as he tossed and turned in his bed. He was tired, but for some reason he could not sleep.
I knew I shouldnt have slept so long The kokiri leader thought to himself.
Just then, Mido heard a loud roar that caused him to jump out of bed.
What was THAT?! the boss of the kokiri exclaimed as he ran out of his house. He looked in the direction of the Lost Woods. It came from there somewhere His eyes widened in horror. SARIA!!! He ran at full speed toward the Lost Woods.
Dirk, waking up at the sound of Midos shout, dashed out of his house and stopped in front of the kokiri leader, blocking his path. Whats going on?
Mido shoved the green-haired boy aside. Outta my way! Sarias in danger! He continued running toward the Lost Woods.
Sarias in danger? Dirk thought to himself. How? He shook his head. There would be plenty of time for questions later, but for now he had to save the Forest Sage. Hey Mido, wait up! The green-haired kokiri boy ran after the boss of the kokiri. I wanna help!
Zelda awoke with a start as her sage powers detected an evil presence somewhere in Hyrule.
~Zelda, this is Rauru. Can you hear me?~ The old Light Sage communicated telepathically to the princess.
~Yes, Rauru,~ Zelda answered. ~What is going on?~
~A powerful being has entered Hyrule from the Outlands,~ Rauru answered. ~It is currently in the forest. I know not how it was able to get through the barrier protecting our land from outside dangers.~
Zeldas eyes widened in horror. ~Rauru, gather the other sages and meet me near the Forest Temple. I do not have a good feeling about this ~
~Yes, princess.~ The Light Sage complied.
The princess then tried to communicate with Link. ~Link, can you hear me?~
~Zelda? Is that you?~ the Hero of Time asked.
~Yes. Link, report to the Forest Temple as soon as possible!~ Zelda ordered.
~Why? Whats wrong?~ Link questioned.
~Saria and the other kokiri children may be in danger,~ The princess answered.
The hero was silent for a second. ~Ill meet you there, princess.~
I hope we make it in time Zelda thought to herself as she transformed into a ball of golden light and sped off toward the forest.
Mido and Dirk ran as fast as they could through the Lost Woods toward the Sacred Forest Meadow. The green-haired boy ran a short distance ahead of the kokiri leader and cut down any weeds, bushes, vines, low-hanging branches, or anything else that was in their way.
Hang on, Saria. Im coming Mido thought silently as he ran.
The kokiri boys made their way into the Sacred Forest Meadow, climbed to the top of the hedge maze, and ran across the top, jumping when necessary. They leapt off the last hedge in their way and ran up the stairs and through the path leading to the forest temple. There, they saw a large wolfos-like beast slashing at something on the ground.
Midos eyes widened in horror as he recognized the creatures victim. Saria!
The beast stopped attacking the kokiri girl and turned to look at the newcomers.
Hey wolf face! Try picking on someone a little closer to your own size! Dirk shouted at the monster as he charged.
The beast growled at the green-haired boy and ran toward him. It raised its front right paw and brought it down on Dirk as he approached, slashing him across the face.
The kokiri fighter growled. Dont think Im gonna let you get away with that! He swung his sword at the monster.
Meanwhile, Mido ran toward the Forest Sage and kneeled next to her. She was not a pretty sight; her left shoulder, back, and both legs were covered with blood and severely bruised. Blood dripped down the kokiri girls face and stained her hair. Her eyes were closed, probably to keep her blood from dripping into them.
Saria! The kokiri leader ran his hand lightly across Sarias forehead and behind her right ear. Please still be alive
Unnh M Mido? The Forest Sage slowly opened her eyes and looked weakly up at the red-haired boy.
Thank the goddesses Mido heaved a sigh of relief. He looked up at his fairy. Dont just hover there, Faso! Fly to the fairy fountain and see if you can get one of your friends to heal her!
Faso opened her mouth as if to argue, then shut it again, thinking better of it. She darted back through the path toward the grotto that contained the nearest fairy fountain.
Mido What are you doing? Saria asked the kokiri leader. Get out of here before that creature attacks you.
Mido shook his head. Im not leaving you here.
Mido, please the kokiri girl pleaded. I dont want you or Dirk to get hurt
And I dont want you to die, the boss of the kokiri said to the Forest Sage. Saria, you mean the world to me. I know this doesnt do me any good because you dont feel the same way, but I really
Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! Dirk flew past the other kokiri and collided head-first into a tree. The impact caused him to lose consciousness.
Mido watched as the green-haired boy was knocked out. This isnt good
The monster turned and snarled at the kokiri leader.
Mido jumped into a nearby tree and broke off a large branch. He jumped down in front of Saria and faced the monster. Still wanna fight, huh? Lets see how well you can do against me!
The beast howled and ran toward the boss of the kokiri. The red-haired forest boy shoved the branch he was holding into the creatures mouth as it approached and twisted it so that the ends pressed against the roof of the monsters mouth and its jaw, forcing its mouth to stay open. While the monster struggled to get the branch out of its mouth, Mido ran behind it and pulled hard on its tail, as if trying to pull it across the meadow. The beast growled and spun around to face its attacker, who punched it hard in the nose. The creature lifted its front right paw and slashed at the kokiri boy. Its claws scraped across Midos chest, ripping his tunic and a couple layers of skin. The kokiri leader ignored the pain as best he could and kicked the beasts jaw hard, nearly sending the bottom of the tree branch in its mouth through the jaw.
Just then, five bright lights one yellow, one red, one blue, one purple, and one orange appeared in the Sacred Forest Meadow. The lights formed into the sages Rauru, Darunia, Ruto, Impa, and Nabooru.
Oh my Ruto gasped as she and the other sages looked around. She spotted the injured Forest Sage laying not too far away.
Saria! The Sage of Water ran to the kokiri girl and kneeled next to her.
Ill be okay, Saria assured the zora. Midos fighting that creature all by himself
Not anymore hes not Ruto stood up and looked at the other sages, who nodded.
A gold light darted through the forest toward the sages and stopped directly in front of Rauru before transforming into Princess Zelda.
The princess looked around. I was afraid of this
Link appeared next to Zelda in a ball of green light.
I got here as fast as I could The hero said to the sages once the light around him had completely disappeared. Whats going on? Then, he noticed the monster Mido was fighting. Oh, I see He drew his sword. Hey, Mido! Back up a bit!
The kokiri leader did as he was told. Link charged at the beast, his sword raised.
The monster stood and stared at the Hero of Time, as if in a trance. Its body started to glow a deep purple/black color, as did Links. The hero gradually stopped moving.
What the heck ? Link struggled to free himself from the magic that was holding him still, but the spell was too strong for him.
The creatures eyes turned blood red in color and glowed brightly. The Hero of Time screamed as a sharp pain coursed through his body.
Whats happening to him? Nabooru asked as she watched the fight.
His energy is being drained, Zelda replied.
Cant we stop it? Ruto asked.
We can try Rauru fired a beam of yellow light at the monster. Darunia sent a crimson beam toward the beast. Impa, Nabooru, and Ruto followed the male sages lead and and fired beams of their respective colors at their opponent. Saria used what little strength she had left to send a beam of green light toward the monster. Zelda watched the other sages for a second, then added her power to theirs.
The monster roared in fury as the sages magic surrounded it, weakening it somewhat. The glow around the beast and Link disappeared, and the hero collapsed.
Mido ran up to Link and pulled the Biggorons Sword off the heros back. After struggling for a bit, he was finally able to lift it. The kokiri leader charged toward the monster and thrust the sword deep into its chest, piercing the evil creatures heart.
The monster roared and tried to slash at Mido as it fell, but the kokiri boy jumped back, avoiding the blow. The wolfos-like monster evaporated into a black mist and disappeared.
Mido fell to his knees, panting hard.
Darunia looked toward the kokiri leader. You okay?
Mido nodded. Yeah, Im fine
Just then, Faso darted past the sages toward Mido, followed by three healing fairies. The healing fairies flew toward Saria, Mido, and Link, and circled them. The fairies flew around the injured hyrulians a few times, and then flew off after healing them.
Saria, Dirk, and Link stood up slowly and looked around.
The monsters gone. Dirk observed as he approached Link.
The young male hylian nodded. Thanks to the sages.
Midos the one that destroyed the monster, the kokiri girl replied.
Mido shrugged and sat with his back facing the group.
Saria walked up to the kokiri leader. Mido?
Mido continued to face away from everyone. What?
What is it you were trying to say to me before? The Forest Sage asked.
The boss of the kokiri lowered his gaze. Nothing. I doubt youd be interested anyway
Yes I would, Saria assured the red-haired kokiri boy. Please tell me?
Mido took a deep breath. I like you, thats all. I like you a LOT. More than anything. Not that it matters His shoulders started to shake as if he was crying. Youve already shown youre not interested. No matter what I try, Ill never be important to you Or the Deku Tree, or any of the other kokiri
The Forest Sage stared at the kokiri leader, speechless; she had never seen Mido like this. The Mido she saw was a bully that bossed people around for no apparent reason. That Mido thought of himself and only himself and was mean to people because he thought himself to be more important. Now, she was seeing Mido as a sensitive boy that picked on others in an attempt to raise his low self-esteem. The kokiri leader acted tough, but inside, he could be a sweet, caring person. He DID risk his life for her
Saria grinned mentally. All this time she had been looking so hard for a potential life partner. It was possible that the person she was searching fore was right under her nose. She was going to give it a try at any rate.
Mido The Forest Sage put her right hand on the boss of the kokiris left shoulder. Look at me please.
Mido slowly turned around and glanced at the kokiri girl with tear-filled eyes.
Saria looked into the red-haired kokiri boys face apologetically. Mido, Im so sorry! I had no idea you liked me
Mido looked down. What difference does it make?
The Forest Sage kissed the boss of the kokiris forehead softly. It makes a BIG difference.
Mido stared at Saria in shock. Does this mean ?
The kokiri girl nodded. I realize now that the side of you I knew was just an outside shell. Just now, and when you saved me from that monster, you showed me a glimpse of the real you. She smiled. This you is one Id like to get to know a LOT better.
The boss of the kokiri wipes the tears out of his eyes and hugged Saria. Saria, youve made me SO happy
The Forest Sage grinned and hugged back. Im glad.
The red-haired kokiri boy looked into Sarias eyes. The kokiri girl stared back. Slowly, the two leaned toward each other until their lips touched. The two kokiri continued their kiss.
Awww Darunia watched Saria and Mido.
Gross! Dirk shouted in disgust.
Dont spoil the moment! Ruto shouted at the green-haired kokiri boy.
Link sighed happily as he watched the kokiri leader and the Forest Sage. Now Saria wasnt lonely and maybe Mido would be a bit nicer to everyone.
Suddenly, the sages begin to glow. The glow was faint at first, but got brighter as the glow was concentrated into seven different colored balls of light. The balls floated to Saria and Mido and began circling them. Link, Dirk, and the sages watched in awe as Sarias and Midos bodies grew taller and older. After the two kokiri looked to be in their mid/late teens, the lights faded and disappeared.
Saria and Mido broke the kiss and stared at each other.
Wow Mido gazed into the Forest Sages eyes, trying hard not to lower his gaze and look at her body, which was much more developed than it had been when she was a child.
Saria giggled at the red-haired kokiri boys semi-low voice. I was thinking the exact same thing.
What was that all about? Dirk asked.
Our sage powers aged them somehow, Ruto answered.
The goddesses must have known one of the sages would be a kokiri and made it so our powers could age them when the time comes, Zelda spoke.
That makes sense with Saria, Link replied. But what about Mido?
Darunia shrugged. He could have been aged because he and Saria were touching, or because he and Saria are destined to be together.
If you say so. Dirk started to walk back ward the maze part of the Sacred Forest Meadow. I need to get some sleep. Later.
Yeah, I need to get going too, Link replied. I promised Malon Id be home as soon as possible.
We all should go back to our homes. Zelda looked down at Saria and Mido. That means you two as well.
The two kokiri nodded. Rauru, Darunia, Ruto, Impa, Nabooru, and Zelda transformed into balls of yellow, red, blue, purple, orange, and gold light and few off. Link ran off in the direction Dirk had gone.
Mido grinned at Saria. Well, shall we?
The Forest Sage nodded. The two walked toward the Lost Woods hand-in-hand.
Mido and Saria continued their relationship for several months. During that time, Midos self esteem rose to the point where he did not have to push others around to feel good about himself. Instead of bossing people around, he began helping them whenever possible. In doing so, he gained more friends, which helped his self esteem out even more. He stopped calling himself boss of the kokiri, but still considered himself their leader. He and Dirk never did learn how to get along, but their pranks became less frequent and severe. After several months of being boyfriend and girlfriend, Mido and Saria got married and, a couple years later, had a daughter together. This daughter became the next Forest Sage, and she passed the sage power down to her child. The bloodline of Mido and Saria continues in Hyrule to this day, each generation passing the title of Forest Sage to their descendants and helping to ensure Hyrules salvation from anything that might plague it in the future.
The End.
