Tail of a Wolfox: Stryke’s Story

Chapter 2: Teaming Up

By: Blues Wolfox with help and character contributions from SFRusher and Dracos

Author's Note: My brother, Dracos, wrote some of this story. Even though I edited his contribution somewhat it is for the most part his style. If you're wondering why the story's written differently in parts, that's why.

"Man! Why do I have to drag Dracos?" Steve asked.

"Well, draggin' dude, I'm carrying the sword and what appears to be a neat lookin' ocarina." Artico answered.

"I'm the fighter and for the moment, I'm holding T.H." Blade replied.

"Well, son of a--!" the wolf/fox yelled.

"STEVE!" Artico yelled. "I'm only eight years old for cryin' out loud!” He continued to walk. “How close are we to the boat?"

"We're should be arriving any time now." Steve answered.

"La la la la la!" T.H. tried to sing.

The group continued to walk until they came to a small wooden boat.

"We have arrived at the Wolfox Express!" Steve said dramatically.

"You're kidding. Right? This rickety thing?" Blade asked.

"Better get on. There seems to be a negative vibe storm comin'" the cat said as he looked at the dark clouds gathering in the sky.

“Right.” Steve stepped into the boat and pulled Dracos in with him. Blade and Artico got in after him and the group rode off toward West Island.

The canines, cat, and hedgehog didn’t get very far before the storm passed over them.

"How much longer until we get there?" Blade the Hedgehog asked his companions as they floated toward West Island on their boat.

"Shouldn't be much longer now," Steve Wolfox replied. "Ten minutes maybe."

"I hope we get off the water soon," Artico Catalon said as he looked out into the water.

"Scared of water?" Steve asked the cat.

"No, not scared," the cat replied. "I'm just getting some negative vibes here. And all this rocking is making me sick…”

"Don't worry, we'll be on the shore soon," the wolf/fox assured Artico.

"Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhnnnnnnnnnnn...." Dracos Prower let out a quiet moan as he stirred.

"Hey! Dracos is coming to!" Blade announced happily.

"What hit me...?" The black fox asked as he slowly sat up.

"I don't know what happened exactly, but I'm guessing it drained too much of your energy." The hedgehog helped his friend sit up.

"I certainly feel drained..." Dracos looked at Steve. "You wouldn't happen to know of any good places to rest once we reach the island, would you?"

"As a matter of fact, I do," the hybrid replied. "There's this restaurant and inn place a ways inland from where we'll be docking. We can go there."

"Great. Wake me up when we get there." The black fox lie down on the boat floor and fell asleep.

Blade shook his head at his friend. "Only you, Dracos. Only you..." He sighed as the group continued to float toward the island.

"You just HAD to get us in the storm..." The hedgehog sighed after the group had somehow made it through the storm.

"It's not MY fault I can't predict the weather." Steve said.

Artico just watched the sea with a seasick look on his face while the wolf/fox and the hedgehog argued. "I hate the sea... I hate the sea... I hate the sea... uh oh!” Artico threw up over the side of the boat.

Later, at the restaurant on West Island...

"Whew. My arms are killing me. I wish Dracos would wake up soon." Steve said as they sat at a table.

“We’d better get him in a bed or something,” Blade walked to the bar at the group’s left.

A female yellow canine mix with big ears, pink stripes, short, thick green hair, and blue eyes walked stood at the other end of the bar. She wore a green tunic, brown shorts, and brown boots and looked to be in her early twenties.

“May I help you?” the canine mix looked at the hedgehog.

Blade nodded. “I need two rooms if you have any open.”

The yellow canine nodded. “That’ll be fifty rings, please.”

The hedgehog dug his wallet out of his armor and handed the rings to the canine. She took the rings and handed him two keys. “Your rooms are up the stairs and to the left. Rest well.”

“Thanks.” Blade took the keys and walked back to Steve, Artico, and Dracos. He picked Dracos up. “Come on, I think we all could use some rest.” He walked to the wall opposite the bar, climbed up the stairs, and approached the room door closest to the wall in front of him. The wolf/fox and the cat followed.

The hedgehog tossed one of the keys to Steve. “You and Artico can share a room. I need to watch over my friend.

The hybrid nodded. “See you in the morning, then.” He and Artico walked into their room and shut the door.

Blade watched his companions enter their room, unlocked the door to his room, and walked inside. He set Dracos down on the bed closest to the door.

“Good night, Dracos.” The hedgehog said to his friend as he shut the door, climbed into the remaining bed, and fell asleep.

A teenage wolf with white fur and blue eyes walked along the southern shore of West Island. The wolf wore a dark gray shirt and blue jeans. Following him was two chao. One was a hero chao with dragon features and the other was a dark chao with phoenix features.

The wolf stopped walking along the shore and took a few steps into the water. "Here's a good spot, I guess." He looked at his chao. "You guys ready?" The chao nodded. The wolf walked into the water until it reached his chest and started to swim. His chao followed close behind.

The wolf had only swum a few yards when he noticed something in the distance. Curious, he swam up to it.

'It's a baby...' The wolf lifted the baby, which was what looked to be a cross between a coyote and a bat, off the piece of wood he was on and looked around. He saw a gray, white, and purple mass ahead and slightly to the left.

The wolf swam to the mass, which turned out to be a gray fox girl with long fangs and robotic hands, feet, forearms and knees.

'I wonder what happened here...' the wolf thought to himself as he examined the baby and the fox. 'They seem to be alive, though the girl isn't in very good shape...'

The wolf heard splashing behind him and turned to see the chao swimming up to him.

The wolf handed the infant to the chao. "Dracos, Phoenix, take him back to the shore, and make sure you keep his head above the water." The chao nodded and carried the baby toward the island. The wolf followed with the fox girl. Once he reached the shore, he laid her down on the sand.

"Unnnnhhh..." The fox moaned and slowly opened her eyes.

"Good, you're awake." The wolf looked down at the girl lying next to him.

The fox slowly rose to a sitting position and looked back at the wolf. "Who are you? And where am I?"

"My name's Kinesis," the wolf answered. "And you're on West Island. Now, may I ask who you are?"

"Stryke," the fox replied. She looked around. "I had a baby with me. Is he safe?"

Kinesis nodded. "If you mean that coyote/bat mix, yeah. My chao have him at the moment."

"Chao?" Stryke gave the wolf a confused look.

"Those little creatures over there." Kinesis pointed to Dracos and Phoenix, who were watching Don's grandson as he slept. "The white dragon one is Dracos and the black phoenix one is Phoenix. They don't usually get along well with each other but they wouldn't think of harming anyone unless I tell them to."

"I see..." The wolf/fox replied.” So... Where are you from and how did you end up in the ocean?" The wolf asked.

"Its a long story," The cyborg replied.

Kinesis shrugged. "I don't mind hearing it if you don't mind telling it.

Stryke sighed. "Where to begin..."

"The beginning is always good." The wolf smirked.

"Heh..." The wolf/fox looked at Kinesis. "Ever hear of Dator Island?"

The wolf nodded.

"What about Cana Village?" Stryke inquired.

Kinesis nodded again. "Yeah. My chao flew over it once."

"Good," the cyborg replied. "Then you know about it being in the trees. Well, your chao may not have seen it, but there's another level of the village under the trees. That's where most of the civilians and retired warriors reside. Anyway, one night an army of robots attacked both parts of the village. I'm not sure who sent them, but an old enemy of mine was with them. While me and a few other warriors attacked the robots on the upper level, the enemy I told you about set the trees on fire. A few of the warriors, me included, ran back toward the village to get as many people out as we could. I didn't get very far, though, because one of the robots blasted the branches I was standing on. I used my claws to dig into a tree trunk and slow my fall, and then ran to the bottom level of the village. By that time, most of the robots had killed or abducted everyone..." She sighed. "Only my best friend and his grandson survived. My friend didn't want me to 'waste time' rescuing him, so he self-destructed."

"Self-destructed?" The wolf gave Stryke a confused look. "He was a robot?"

"Part of him was," the wolf/fox hybrid answered. "Some of the warriors of Cana Village have themselves partially roboticized so they can fight better or have a better defense."

"Ah..." Kinesis glanced down at Stryke's hands and feet. "Is that what you did?"

The cyborg nodded. "Everything from my elbows and knees down is mechanical."

"Cool," the wolf replied.

Stryke shrugged. "I guess. To continue the story, after my friend self-destructed, I ran into his house to see if any of his family was still alive. His wife, daughter, and grandson were all buried under a pile of rubble. The wife and daughter were dead but the grandson was alive so I took him and searched for other survivors. I couldn't find any so I decided to escape. Then, this huge robot attacked me. The fire started by my enemy was making its way toward me so I didn't have time to destroy the robot, so I ran as fast as I could toward the ocean. I almost didn't make it..."

"Wow..." Kinesis listened to the hybrid’s story intently.

Stryke continued. "After I reached the ocean, I climbed into the first boat I found and rowed as far away as possible. Fortunately, that robot couldn't swim. Well, after awhile a huge storm wrecked the boat. I put my friend's grandson on the boat piece closest to me and tried to swim with it to safety. Then, a wave crashed onto us and separated us. I tried to reach him, but after so many tries my muscles refused to work. Next thing I know, I'm laying here...""I'm surprised you made it so far." The wolf looked at the infant. "That's your friend's grandson I take it."

The cyborg nodded.

"What's his name?" Kinesis asked.

"I...don't know..." The wolf/fox replied. "I didn't even know he existed until the day of the attack. I wasn't told his name."

"You're going to have to call him something," the wolf said to the hybrid.

"I know..." Stryke thought for a moment. "Wing, perhaps?"

Kinesis nodded. "Sounds good to me."

"Okay then, Wing it is," the wolf/fox decided. "At least until I find any living relatives of his, assuming he has any..."

"I'll help you look for them if you like," the wolf offered.

Stryke smiled at Kinesis. "Thanks, but first I want to put a stop to that Shade creep before he destroys any more lives..."

"Shade?" The wolf gave the cyborg a confused look.

"The guy that burned my village down," Stryke explained. She stood up. "The sooner I find him, the better. He's probably off somewhere leveling more towns right now!"

"Are you sure you want to do that while Wing's with you?" Kinesis asked.

The hybrid sighed. "No, but what choice do I have? I don't know anyone that can take care of him for me..."

The wolf thought for a moment. "I think I might know someone..."

"Really?" The wolf/fox looked at Kinesis. "Who?"

"There's a restaurant and inn a ways up north from here," the wolf replied. "The owner of the place is nice enough. Maybe they wouldn't mind helping you out."

"Wouldn't hurt to try." Stryke stood up, walked over to Wing, and picked him up. "You're going to come with me, right?"

Kinesis shrugged. "Sure, I guess..."

The cyborg smiled. "Great! Lead the way."

"Okay... If I remember right, its this way" The wolf walked away from the beach in the northwest direction with Stryke and his chao following.

'Where am I?' was the first thought that entered Anna's mind as she regained consciousness. She found herself being held in a standing position by something metallic. The room the jackal was in was extremely dark; she could not see a thing.

Just then, Anna heard footsteps coming toward her.

"Who's there?!" the jackal demanded.

"Oh good, you're awake." A familiar voice came from the same direction as the footsteps.

"Shade? Is that you?" Anna peered into the darkness, trying to make out the figure in front of her.

"Yes," the voice answered. "It's pretty dark in here, isn't it? I'll turn on the light."

The jackal blinked as the room was light up in a bright flash. She looked around at the room she was in. Consoles and lab tables lined the walls. In the middle of the room were a few capsules, much like the one she was trapped in. In front of her was Shade, who was wearing silver armor with a dark blue cape.

"Shade, what's going on here?" Anna asked the kelpie. "Why am I being held like this?"

"You should consider yourself lucky." Shade approached the capsule the jackal was in. "Dr. Robotnik wanted the village destroyed. I had to capture you in order to keep you from getting hurt."

"Dr. Robotnik?" Anna gave the kelpie a confused look. "Who is he and why does he hate us?"

"Dr. Robotnik is the greatest man anyone could work for," Shade answered. "He saw how corrupt King Acorn's leadership was so he decided it was time to take over and run the planet properly. Cana Village was a threat to his plan, so it had to be done away with."

"Doesn't sound so great to me," the jackal replied. "King Acorn wasn't corrupt at all! Earth's been very peaceful since he took the throne!"

"Is that the way you think?" the kelpie walked to a consol near the capsule and pressed a few buttons. "I'm afraid I am going to have to do something about that."

Anna raised an eyebrow at Shade. "What are you doing?"

Shade bowed his head. "Sorry, love. This is the only way I can guarantee your safety around here."

The jackal was about to ask what the kelpie meant by his last statement but a searing pain shot through her entire body, causing her to scream loudly. In a matter of moments, she blacked out.

"What the? Where am I?" Dracos asked.

As he gazed into the darkness, he saw a blue water creature. "Huh? Who's there?"

Then he saw chaos, the water creature getting bigger. "WHAT IN THE WORLD?!?" The fox yelled as he dashed off, trying to run away from it.

A few seconds later, Dracos woke up breathing heavily.

"Glad you woke up." Blade said.

"Whoa! Whew! I'm glad that was just a dream.” The fox looked around. “Is this that inn place Steve told us about?”

The hedgehog nodded. “He and Artico are waiting for us downstairs.” He walked to the door. “Are you coming or do you still need to rest?”

“I’m coming,” Dracos got out of bed and walked to his friend. The two exited their room, climbed down the stairs, turned their room key in, and sat down at one of the tables closest to the stage, where Steve and Artico were sitting.

When Blade looked to his left he saw a gray male hedgehog that looked to be about fifteen years of age with blue quills, yellow mask, a red shirt, a yellow belt, black pants, and dark green boots. With him was a female green hedgehog that looked to be about fourteen years old.The stripes on the top of each of her quills were navy blue, as was the diamond shaped marking on her forehead. The fur around her eyes and on her eyelids somewhat resembled a mask and was also navy blue, contrasting slightly with her light blue eyes. Her muzzle was a yellow-green in color. The hedgehog wore a pink tank top over a purple t-shirt, black basketball shorts, red bicycle gloves, red shoes with light green heels and toes, black soles, yellow tongues, and two black Velcro straps, and yellow socks.

"Huh? Sonar? That you?" Blade asked the gray hedgehog while walking towards the other table.

"Yes. I am Sonar.” The gray hedgehog looked up at the black hedgehog. “Blade? How’ve you been? I haven't seen you since Kindergarten!"

"Fine. Who's the green hedgehog with you?" Blade wondered.

"Never mind that. The show's about to start." Sonar said.

"Show? What show?" Steve asked.

Then all the lights shut off and an announcer spoke, " Are you ready to rock? Then get prepared for Magmus Dragoonos!!!!!"

Just then Open Your Heart began to play and smoke blew everywhere as a green dragon with blue eyes and middle spikes, blue jeans with holes at the knees, blue vest, red bracers, a black jacket around the waist, and a white t-shirt rose from under the floor.

As the dragon was about to sing the words, the green hedgehog interrupted the song by singing," Na na na na! Na na na na! Hey hey-ey! Cream pie!"

A few chuckles rose from the audience.

"Oh…kay... Restart the music!" the dragon ordered.

"Roger, Magmus!" the announcer replied.

Then the same hedgehog interrupted the music again. "Na na na na! Na na na na! Hey hey-ey!" The hedgehog blew into her hands; making a sound that somewhat resembled a fart. The audience roared with laughter.

"AGILE!!!!" Sonar yelled at the green hedgehog.

“Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?” The hedgehog girl grinned mischievously. “I didn’t do nothin’.”

"Well then. Death will behold us all." Magmus said in a scary voice. One of the members of the audience screamed and fainted.

"Ha! You don’t scare me!" Agile stuck her tongue out at the dragon.

Then, all of the sudden, a robotic two tailed fox burst through one of the restaurant’s walls and cut Magmus between the eyes with its dagger. "I am Alucard, the ULTIMATE robot. You shall not defeat me."

‘Father?’ Dracos looked at the robot for a moment, and then shook his head. ‘No, it COULDN’T be!’

Robotnik appeared next to Alucard. "Mwahahahahaha! You pathetic fools shall not defeat THIS robot!" The doctor laughed evilly.

"Oh yeah, RoBUTTnik!" Dracos wielded his sword.

"Wait. I'll take care of this. You think you can ruin my concert and get away with it?! Well I don't think so!" Magmus growled at the doctor, blood dripping off his face and fire forming in his hand. "Take this!" He tossed the fireball at the robot.

"Hmph. How pathetic." Alucard said while deflecting the blast.

"But you don't know the evil that robot can do!" Blade yelled at the dragon. He charged at the robot.

Alucard fired a stun beam the hedgehog, knocking him out. Then it cut Magmus's wings, leaving scars there as well.

"Argh!" the dragon yelled in pain.

“Hey, enough already!” Agile curled herself into a ball and rolled at a high speed toward the robot, which leapt up. The green hedgehog continued to roll until she hit the wall hard.

T.H. started to run after Alucard.

"Pathetic chao." The robot smirked evilly as it blasted T.H.

"T.H.!!!!!!" Dracos ran to the chao with tears in his eyes.

"No! That's it! No one kills anybody while I'm around! Not even chao!!!" Magmus yelled as he tossed a bunch of fireballs at the robot. He fired a medium-sized energy ball at Robotnik.

"WHAT!!!! NOOOOOOOO!!!!!" the robot screamed as the herd of fireballs hit him.

"Huh? I better get out of here!!" the evil doctor yelled as he retreated.

"How dare you!" Alucard growled at the dragon. Then the robot turned one of his arms into a rifle and shot the dragon's arm, knees, and guts.

"Urgh!" the dragon yelled in pain as he collapsed.

"You guys don't stand a chance against me so there is no point for me to stay." Alucard blasted off through the roof.

"He's gone. But it's to late for T.H." Dracos said sadly as T.H. formed a cocoon and disappeared.

"This has gone far enough! First he destroys my home town, then his robot kills my friend's chao!" Steve growled.

"Me and Agile better be off. We have a meeting to get to." Sonar said as he put his hand and Blade's shoulder then walked off.

"Right." Agile slowly stood up, rubbing her head as she did so. She walked out the door after Sonar, who was already far away from the building.

"Grrr... I'm gonna get that Robotnik!!!" The black hedgehog yelled in anger.

"Same here, Hedgehog Dude! We're gonna get that evil villain dude!" Artico said.

Kinesis led Stryke northward across West Island, glancing back at the wolf/fox from time to time to make sure she was not up to anything.

"Not very trusting, are you?" The cyborg asked with a smirk.

"Not really," the wolf replied.

"Guess I can't blame you." Stryke quickened her pace so she was walking beside her companion. "Gotta have faith in someone though. Its no fun being suspicious of every living thing."

Kinesis shrugged. "Maybe, but people have to prove themselves before I'll trust them."

The wolf/fox nodded. "That's probably the smart thing. I wait until people give me a reason not to trust them."

"You're gonna wind up hurt that way," the wolf replied.

Stryke shrugged. "We'll see."

Kinesis stopped at the start of a steep downward slope. "We have to walk west a bit. The slope isn't so steep there."

"Why?" the hybrid asked, "It doesn't look too bad here." She started down the slope, and then yelled in surprise as part of the ground she was on crumbled, sending her tumbling down the slope.

"Stryke! Hang on!" The wolf climbed down the slope as fast and carefully as he could. His chao flew down after him.

Agile ran across a dirt road going around the steep slope to her left. She needed to get to the meeting Sonar told his friend about, but there was something she wanted to do before then, so she had taken a different route than the gray hedgehog.

The hedgehog girl heard a shout to her left and looked up. She saw a white wolf climb down the slope with two chao flying down with him.

'I've seen that guy a few times before...' the hedgehog girl thought to herself. 'He usually goes around though. Why's he climbing down here where the slope's the steepest?'

Then, the hedgehog saw something fall of the slope toward her. She instinctively ducked and curled herself into a ball, her quills thrust out in every direction.

Stryke held tightly onto Wing as she tumbled down the slope. After what seemed like forever, she landed on several sharp pointy objects. With a yell of half surprise, half pain, the wolf/fox jumped to her feet and faced what she had fallen onto: a green hedgehog girl with blue eyes and navy blue markings.

Wing, who had been crying the entire time he and Stryke were falling, stopped when he saw the hedgehog. He blinked as he stared at her.

Agile didn't seem to notice as she stood up slowly.

"Ow!" The wolf/fox rubbed her back with one hand and held the baby against her with the other. "Watch where you're pointing those quills of yours! You could really hurt someone!"

"That wasn't exactly a picnic for me either!" the hedgehog shouted at the hybrid. "You really shouldn't attempt to climb down steep slopes like that unless you've had plenty of experience."

"Who are you to say what I have and don't have experience in?" Stryke glared at Agile.

"It ain't that hard to tell that you could use some practice!" The hedgehog girl stuck her tongue out at the cyborg.

"And I suppose you could do better?" Stryke looked down at Agile.

"Much," the hedgehog girl replied. "And I'll prove it, too! Some other time though. I've got things I need to get done, so if you'll excuse me..." She started to run in the direction she had been going. The hedgehog ran faster until little more than a blur could be seen, then jet-skated as the jets in the bottoms of her shoes activated, making it look like she was standing on two small flames.

The wolf/fox blinked as the hedgehog skated off. 'Are all hedgehogs so speedy?' She wondered.

"Stryke!" Kinesis ran up to the cyborg. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine." Stryke replied. She chuckled. "I think my back may be bleeding in a few places, but other than that..."

"What about Wing?" Kinesis asked.

"He got scared, but I think he's fine now." The hybrid looked down at the baby, who looked back up at her and started crying. "...Maybe not..."

The wolf thought for a moment. "How long has it been since he's been fed?"

"I don't know. Since last night at the latest," Stryke answered.

"Me might be hungry," Kinesis replied.

"Wonderful..." The cyborg replied sarcastically.

The wolf pointed to a building a short distance away from them. "The restaurants right over there. He won't be hungry for long."

"Are you sure the people there will help?" Stryke asked.

Kinesis nodded.

"Great, let's go!" The hybrid ran toward the building.

"Hey, wait a minute!" The wolf chased after the canine mix. His chao ran close behind him.

"Wow...there's a lotta people here," Stryke gawked at the huge crowd of furres and humans as she and Kinesis entered the restaurant/inn.

The wolf nodded. "A lot of travelers come in here. There aren't many restaurants or inns around here and they don't serve alcohol so it’s a nice safe place to relax." He nodded toward the bar to their left. "This way." He walked to the bar and sat down on the middle stool. His chao sat on the two stools to his left.

The wolf/fox walked to the bar and sat on the stool to Kinesis's right. She looked around. "What happened to that wall over there?"

"Huh? What wall?" the wolf looked at the wall Stryke had asked about. A large hole had been punched through it. The ceiling above it was also damaged. "I don't know. That wasn't there last time I checked..."

"Kinesis Whitewolf! It's been awhile." Sylpha grinned at Kinesis. She looked at the wolf/fox. "Who's this?"

"Stryke Wolfox," Stryke introduced herself. "And you are?"

"Sylpha Artica," the yellow canine replied. "It's nice to meet you Stryke." She looked down at Wing. "And who's this little guy?"

"We're calling him Wing for now," the cyborg answered. "He's my best friend's grandson. Everyone on his mother's side of the family died last night in an attack against my village, so I'm in charge of him at least until I find someone on his father's side to take care of him."

Sylpha lowered her gaze to the floor. "Poor thing... He looks hungry." The yellow canine mix walked to one of the refrigerators behind the bar and got out a carton of milk. She poured the milk into a bottle, heated it up, and handed the bottle to the wolf/fox.

"Thank you so much..." Stryke fed the milk to the baby, who drank greedily.

"Don't mention it." Sylpha smiled at the cyborg while putting the milk carton back in the fridge.

"Stryke? Is that you?" A voice close behind the canines asked.

The wolf/fox spun around and looked up at the source of the voice. "Steve?!"

"Stryke!" The owner of the voice smiled widely at the cyborg. "I can't believe it's really you! When I saw the burning ruins of our village, I thought you were gone for sure!"

Stryke smirked. "It takes more than a stupid forest fire to get rid of me."

Kinesis looked at the two wolf/foxes. "Am I missing something?"

The female wolf/fox slapped her forehead. "Where are my manners? Kinesis, this is my brother, Steve. Steve, this is Kinesis. He pulled me and Wing out of the ocean and led me here."

"Nice to meet you," the wolf extended his hand.

Steve took the hand it shook it. "Likewise." He looked at his sister. "Was anyone else able to escape?"

Stryke looked down at the floor. "I don't know. All I know is that Don and his family didn't make it..." A few tears rolled down her cheeks as the images of the middle-aged coyote self-destructing and the dead bodies of his wife and daughter ran through her mind.

"Dang it..." the male wolf/fox growled slightly.

The female wolf/fox nodded. "Shade will pay dearly for this!"

"It's not Shade that's behind it," a black two-tailed fox walked up to the group, followed by a black hedgehog with green streaks on his quills and a dragoon helmet on his head. Both were wearing armor. Behind them was a white cat with blue hair and a purple gi.

"Who are you?" Stryke looked at the newcomers.

"These are my friends; Dracos, Blade, and Artico" Steve answered, nodding to each one in turn.

"Dracos... I have a chao by that name," Kinesis replied.

At the mention of the word 'chao', Dracos Prower started to cry.

The wolf gave him a concerned look. "What's wrong?"

"His chao was killed by one of Robotnik's minions very recently," Blade answered.

"Oh..." Kinesis looked down. "I'm sorry..."

The black fox shook his head. "Not your fault. It's Robotnik that did it. And it was Robotnik that destroyed Cana Village. That Shade guy you were talking about is just one of his minions, like I used to be..."

You were one of Robotnik's minions?" The wolf looked at the fox in shock.

"He and I both," the hedgehog answered. "Until we realized how evil he truly was."

"Hmmm..." Kinesis thought for a moment. "How do we know you're not still working for him?"

"Dude, I know these guys can be trusted," Artico assured the wolf. "They saved me from the SWATbots that were torturing me and I feel positive vibes from them."

"You know, while we're sitting here talking, that Robotnik creep is most likely destroying more cities," Stryke spoke up.

"Most likely?" Dracos looked at the female wolf/fox. "He IS destroying more cities. While I was still in his army I heard him talking about destroying every city, town, and village on Dator Island before they become a threat."

"No!" Stryke stood up. "We can't let him do that!"

"We won't,” the fox replied. “If the six of us join forces, we should be able to defeat him."

"Make that seven." Magmus walked to the group. "I also have a bone to pick with Dr. Eggman."

The female wolf/fox smiled. "Great! Now we need a way to get back to Dator Island."

"I have a boat we can use," the dragon offered. "Follow me." He walked out of the restaurant.

Stryke looked at Sylpha. "Sylpha, would you mind taking care of Wing for me while we're gone?"

The yellow canine smiled at the wolf/fox. "I'd be happy to!"

"Thanks, I owe you." Stryke handed the infant to Sylpha. "I'll be back soon, kid. Don't worry." With that, she ran after Magmus.

"Wait up, sis!" Steve chased after his sister.

"Shall we go, dog and hedgehog dudes?" Artico asked the others. Dracos and Blade nodded and left the restaurant. The cat then looked at Kinesis. "You comin'?"

The wolf nodded. "After you. I prefer to keep strangers where I can see them."

Artico shrugged. "Suit yourself." He left, followed by Kinesis.

Magmus led the group to a large gray/silver boat. He flew up to the deck and walked inside the boat. A few minutes later, a staircase slid out of a panel near the top of the boat and slowly made its way toward the ground.

The dragon reappeared on the deck after the staircase had been lowered all the way. "Come on up if you're going to."

The other six members of the group walked up the staircase and onto the deck. Magmus walked back inside the boat, retracted the staircase and the anchor that was holding the boat close to the shore, and started the boat. The boat began moving at a high speed towards the island.

Artico leaned over the side of the ship. "I hate the sea… I hate the sea… I hate the sea… I hate the--oh no!" The feline vomited over the side of the ship and groaned. This was going to be a long trip...
