Ear Mites
Ear mites are one of the most common causes of canine ear troubles.
The tiny, crablike mites are passed from dog to dog or cat or a
stirred up, like head scratching--it may feel as though your pet has an
earful of jumping beans, rarely bite, sting or hurt they can lead
to intensely itchy allergic reactions,
causing animals to scratch their ears raw.
The good news is they are easy to diagnose and treat at home, the bad news is ear
mites have 8 legs and travel.
When you start treatment they move to a new area, usually
at the base of the tail.
When the ear medication wears off they return home
to the ear canal. So make sure you spray or powder the pet when
treating for ear mites. Cleanings by a veterinarian need to be followed by prescription medication.
Eardrops, oral medications and injections will help clear up conditions.
Dips, sprays, and powders can be used afterward to prevent additional outbreaks.
Most common flea treatments also work.
To avoid the pass the ear mite game it is a good idea to treat all
your furry pets at the same time. Cats, ferrets and rabbits included.
