Inbreeding And Linebreeding Dogs. What are inbreeding and linebreeding, how can it affect your breeding program?, lets first understand inbreeding.
The pairing of two dogs that are related to each other is called inbreeding.
Because all purebred dogs have been traced back to a limited( small) number of dogs, all pure bred dogs are in essence considered inbred.

What does inbreeding (in the genetic sense) do? Basically, it increase the probability that the two copies of any given gene will be identical and derived from the same ancestor. Technically, the animal is homozygous for that gene.
Inbreeding leads to the loss of genetic diversity and increase the frequency of genetic problems in the population.
If we look closely at some of dogs in our breed of choice the American Pit Bull Terrier, in many cases we can certainly see the negative effects of inbreeding, for example, bad coats, tails, easty westy, skin problems etc, can all be the effects of inbreeding.
Simply put, genetic diversity is lost when we inbreed. With the increase of breeders/buyers who lack in knowledge in what to look for in a breed standard and the greed of many breeders, inbreeding is being done more frequently.

Outcrossing and Line breeding
'Outcrossing' refers to the breeding of two unrelated animals within the same breed. This is occasionally done by breeders to bring in 'new blood' or more specifically a new gene pool, to their breeding program.

Line breeding
'Line breeding' is the basis for establishing a good breeding program. It is the breeding of genetically related individuals that are not closely related. An example would be the mating of two cousins. Line breeding is done to concentrate the desirable genes found within related individuals.

Unless your are particularly looking for an inbred dog and understand some of the consequences of purchasing an inbred one, you should always do heavy research before spending your hard earned bucks.. This sort of research can help you to a more educated purchase.
A dog's pedigree can certainly lead you in the right direction, and should quickly assist you in purchasing an inbreed, outcross, or linebred dog or puppy. Inbreeding should never be done by novices !!.
