The Central High School Alumni Association has two major, on-going programs which we support: our scholarship program and our distinguished alumni and faculty award program. These programs are funded from the general proceeds of our fundraising activities. Monies are not solicited separately for these programs.

From time to time, the association may choose to conduct some other program and solicit funds specifically for that purpose. The only time we have done that was for a four-year period when we solicited funds for and produced a memorial plaque honoring the Central High School students and graduates who gave their lives in the service of their country in time of war. This plaque now resides in the display case at Flint Central High School on the first floor, outside the Auditorium.

The association annually awards scholarships to members of the graduating class selected by their teachers. Usually, the top scholar(s) are awarded the Friends of Randy Piper Scholarship, funded by an account at the Community Foundation of Greater Flint established by Mr. Pipers many friends upon his retirement. The remainder of the (usually) ten scholarships are funded by your donations and the proceeds of our fundraising. Scholarships are presented at our annual Awards Banquet. The students are individually introduced and are asked to present their parents to the assemblage.

Each year, our awards committee selects, from nominations received, five to seven alumni who have made significant contributions to our society based upon the grounding they received at Central High School. They also select two faculty members for recognition for their contributions to the development of CHS graduates. Recent custom has been to select one faculty member from the past and one current or recently retired faculty member. These individuals are honored at our annual Awards Banquet. Distinguished alumni receive a plaque to take home recognizing their achievement. We also place a photo-engraved plaque in our Hall of Fame in the Central High School Library. The school has created an album of biographical information about the people so honored so that students can look up information about the honorees beyond the limited items which can be listed on the plaque. Each of our distinguished faculty members also received a plaque and it is our intention to create a large display plaque to which their names can be added.
