Stereophonics to play
charity gig in memory of legendary music industry
figure
STEREOPHONICS, EMBRACE, PLACEBO and
PULP's JARVIS COCKER are amongst the names set to
play at a charity bash in LONDON on April 18. The bands
will be raising money for Marie Curie Cancer Care
at The Scala. The show is in memory of the late
Scott Piering, a legendary radio and TV 'plugger'
who worked all the bands on the bill before his
premature death from cancer in 2000.
The
show is the brainchild of David Steele, boss of
V2 Records and Danny O'Connor of BBC Radio 1.
Steele said he hoped it would provide a memorial
to "a truly unique man". O'Connor, a
close friend of Piering, told NME.COM that
further names would be added to the bill in the
coming weeks.
Piering
took Bob Marley to America for his first ever US
tour and also guided the early career of The
Smiths as well as latterly the likes of The
Charlatans, New Order and the Prodigy.
