Ethio club History

The club was started in 1999 by Blair High School students. The organizers who later served as officers were Haimanot Worku (President), Jamila Negatu (Vice-President), Tizita Girma (Second Vice-President), Senayit Chanyalew(Tressurer), Melat Defaru and Yohhanes WoldeYohannes (Secretary). The main purpose of the year was organizing the club and with the help of Etthiopian Students Association at University of Maryland, we were able to create our consitiution which served as a strong base since after.

The following year 2000 with the leadership of the elected president Nurglen Zelalem, vice-presidents Jameila Negatu and Melat Defaru, 2nd vice-president Tezeta Girma, Secretary Tebebeyesus Defaru, and treasurer Naod Tekeste the club began to engage in various activities. The major accomplishment of the year was, "EthioNight 2000" with a major goal rasing money for the people suffering back home. During this night we the members of the club presented traditional Ethiopian dances, poems, and drama and also had guest speakers. We had many people attending this show, there by supporting our cause. To all those who were at our show, we show our appreciation and give our thanks.

The current officers of the club are Melat Defaru (Prisdent), Wollansa Tadesse (Vice-President), Leyou Gennene and Nebyou Genene (Second Vice-President), Tebebeyesuse Defaru (Secretary) and Naod Tekeste (Tressurer). We are hoping this year will be a successuful year and an example for years to come.
