1984 feel their time has come
"pals hope band will be a hit"
HOPING for fame and fortune are five musicians who formed a band at a Forest Gate school and are aiming to hit the big time with their first album.
The group 1984 comprise of guitarists Alwin Fernandez, formerly of East Ham, and Curtis Cumberbatch, of Forest Gate, drummer/guitarist Chris McDonald, of Mile End, and Ernest Acquah of Forest Gate, and singer Matthew Craddock also from Forest Gate. They have been pals since attending St Bonaventures. The bands name is not a reference to famous author George Orwells book - 1984 was the year they were all born.
Alwin, 17, who now lives in Southgate, describes their music as a mixture of rock, indie and pop. He said: "The bands main musical influences are Blink 182, Nirvana, Oasis and the Foo Fighters." They rehearse whenever they get the chance at Newham Academy of Music in East Ham. Recent venues the band have played at include the Royal Festival Hall and the West Ends Kashmir Club, which has helped bands Muse and Alishas Attic climb the musical ladder.
They also featured at the Battle of the Bands at Earls Court last month. They have played at venues all over Newham, including at their old school! Anybody who wants a copy of their album entitled "Who The Hell Are 1984?" can contact Alwin on www.angelfire.com/band/1984
