I was sittin in my car fuckin with the cd player. I pulled out the cd it skipped endlessly, scratched to hell. I was pissed. I through it out walked in the house, and my old computer ran for its life. I pulled everything out and started on my mp3 player. I hooked up my hard drive to my computer (that I just built) and formatted the hd. That day I soon realized I didn't have the slightest idea on how to build a car mp3 computer player. So I started searching. I found my way across some sites that make you pay, of course I was like fuk dat! Assholes! so I kept looking and came across. www.mp3car.com This site was the biggest help of my life. Why? HAHA IT WAS FREE! Ahhh nothing better than free, and I told my self once I was done I'm goin to make a site to help others for free!
Today I was doing some research on how to connect the power from the mother board to the battery of the car. Wasn't really finding anything, joined some forums. They didn't help. So I decided to wing it! I took apart my old powersupply and cut it up. I got me a diagram for the atx wire layout on the motherboard hookup. And I found that there is 4 combonations of wires. 3.3 volt, 5 volt, 12 volt, and of course the obvious ground.I got them all sperated and ready to figure out how to hook them all up to a 12 volt battery.
HaHaHaHa. Boy was I wrong. The last two days was an utter shock. I now realize that I wasted a perfectly good powersupply. So if someone tells you to do it this way DO NOT. Today I figured out that you need a power inverter (dc to ac). Everyone knows that a battery is direct current or dc. And a computer needs dc, but the powersupply of a computer needs ac. Man is that weird. And just so you guys understand why, that is because in a house where computers are usually plugged into there is alternating current, unless you live in a foreign country. And this inverter will plug into your cigarette lighter and booya you got ur self a plug in yer car. And als you have to do is hook a computer up like normal and plug it in there.
So today I ordered one, I got it for 30.00 bones off of www.ebay.com (god I love ebay). And I obviously ordered me another powersupply. I ordered a 250w ps and a 300w inverter. So I shouldn't have a problem with that.
Doing some more research on how I'm guna do this. Still not sure. So I decided to work on my system I've already got while waiting for parts I've ordered. Got some ideas for that!!
Did some more research, found I needed (well for my tastes) a keypad. I figured I'd like that better than having a full keyboard in my car to piss me off and get me in a wreck. So I ordred one of those from coolmax usa http://store.yahoo.com/coolmaxusa/acps2key.html 30.00 bones, (include shipping its on sale now!!!) I ordered the ps2 in black not the usb. It should be tyte!! Cant wait.
Today my powersupply came in, I can finally test my mobo,( cuz I'm too lazy to pull one out of my other puter).
I tested out my mobo, and it works arah. I put win 98 lite on there. I got me a 100% complete boot time of 42 seconds. BOOOOYA damn that's good. I think I can make some more mods to get that time down a bit. Still kinda long, but I dun know what to do. Also I have a shutdown time of 2 seconds. Roughly. I downloaded macro magic. And it is tyte as hell. I set it up so that I hit the num lock key it shuts down the computer. I got rid of the scan disk bull shit, encase I get trigger happy.
I had some processor problems. Everytime I would even touch it it would freeze, (it's a slot p2 366) I rigged me a lil thing to hold it down with zip ties. Check out my pic section!
I also got me some plugins for winamp that allows me a resume, so when I close winamp it automatically saves my place of music every 2 seconds. And I got me a plug in that uses the key pad to control winamp. And I got me a BAD ASS plugin (that a use on my pc) its called cross fader. Bad ass, it makes it so its continuous music, no pauses! I love it. Ohh man I can't wait.
Was checkin out some other mp3 cars, and I was diggin the lcd's they had. So I did some research on them. And found one on ebay I couldn't refuse. The guy had a goofy name on it, so I don't think many people found it, hell I dun know how I did. But it's a 10.4" nec tft lcd. Color w/ back light. 640*480. looks bad ass. I need a controller for it though. I got this bad boy for 50.00 bucks. It says it new, hope so.
did some more research on how to hook this bitch to my car, and found I need a auxiliary input adapter. This thingamabob plugs into the cd changer doodad (haha nice terminology). And it makes 2 rca jacks out of it. And I bought a thing from radio shack that turns those 2 rca jacks into a 1/8" male plug jack. Ya know the same thing as head phone jacks. Well the auxiliary input adapter should be here by 12-24-01 oooo that's the day. Oh and I found it on crutchfied.com but I did a search on ebay and found it cheaper!
WOO HOO the lcd is here. Omg its bad ass. Although I cant test it. It looks emaculant. Can't wait to hook er up. I went around to some places round here and asked lots of questions on how to hook this to a vga vid card. And they all said I needed a lcd controller. So I got on the trusty ole internet and did some research on them bastards.
I got my system all setup in my car, looooooks pimp. I love it. Like the pros. I hooked a crossover up in my system and the bass hits sooo hard my cd skips in the cd player. YIKES my hard drives guna fear for its life.
Still waiting on my inverter, and the auxiliary input adapter, that should be here on Monday. Hopefully the invert will be here tomorrow.
Looked around for those lcd controllers and man are they expensive. Like 200 bones. So I don't think the lcd is going to be put in my car for a while yet. Maybe when I sell my 27" monitor (HEY YA WANA BUY IT 550$ right now!).
Merry christmas!, today the aux adapter came in! woo hoo. And i tried it out with a walk man. and it works great! now i'm just waiting for the inverter and i'll be set to put it in my car!
STILL NO DC/AC INVERTER!!!!! I e-mailed him bout 4 hours ago to complain. well on a somewhat brighter note (i guess), i got my carputer into a case now. let me stress this is TEMPORARY. I posted some pics of it on the picture section, and you'll understand why i said "...somewhat brighter note (i guess)...", its a bit of a choppy saw job... but its only a temp rig because if someone see's a puter sitting in my back seat there guna steal it! so this makes the window of oportunity alot lower. Anywho, because its friday the mail won't come till monday so i have to wait even longer. ITS BEEN OVER 2 WEEKS, pathetic. but all good things come to those who wait i guess. *shrugg*
HAPPY NEW YEAR! good news, and bad news. and then more good news! woo hoo.... first, the other day i tried out my carputer with an extension cord. It started out good, but it started skipping (comp froze), so i restarted. Hmmm, it didn't turn back on.FUUUUCK... i fried my mobo! oh well. it was a gay motherboard anyway, i didn't know anything about it. so i bought a new one woo hoo. And today my inverter FINALLY came in. Geez. oh well at least its here. I'm guna go test it now! my new mobo should be here by mon! but thats when college starts back up, so my carputer project is guna down shift a notch. Cuz books and shit set me back a grand. so i'm basically BROKE! eh i duno. i just want the fugger workin!
Ok, today the damn motherboard finally came in, i put 2nd day air on it (cuz i want my carputer NOW), but it still took like a week. geez. but its here and i put my carputer back together in my rig-job box, luckly it was the same size mobo! whew... and this mobo was great, well is great! its way faster, and best of all, it works! and its not an intel! yessss. carputer goin in car now!!!
CONTINUED . . .OMG, why can't anything ever go right! for real! I put it in my car and set the head set to aux, and went to plug in the cord to my sound card, and got this loud anoying rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr sound. And a tear came to my eye. i unplugged it and set the headset back to cd, and it was still there, a loud rrrrrrrrr sound. By this point i was balling!!! lol, but yea i was pissed. I just fried my fuggin cd player. its not the fuse cuz it wouldn't even turn on, and its not the speakers cuz i can still hear a lil bit of music in the back ground, so its gota be the head set. Oh well, there is a place in gary indiana called (hell if i know), but everyone round here calls it "the jap", its owned by a bunch of japanese guys who are like "ya ya, dis is mo betta; you go wif dis; no no, dat no good". Hey, for what they lack in english they make up in their knowledge in stolen stereos (if you know anything of gary indiana). So i'll be heading out there sometime in the next few days, but i'll be packin heat so WATCH OUT! lol.
BUHAHAHAHHEHEHEHEAHHHAH.... get this shit! for the last 3 days, i've been riding arround with my carputer running, but with headphones in its place, when the cd player wasn't really fried! ok, i was goin to my friends house to pick him up to go to the jap, cuz i dont wana go there by my self! (read 1-12-02). And when i pulled in his driveway, something hit me... maybe its not fired. iwas runnin everything thru in my head. and something remided me about noise! and thats when i started kickin my ass. I decided, to plug everything together before turing it on. so i did, and the noise was sitll there and bad. so i had it figured out! woo hoo. so i went to the shack you know (you've got questions, we've got dumb looks) and asked for a ground loop isolater! and they had one, and viola! 80% of my noise is now gone, i can listen to my music now but the noise is still there. and its from my powersupply. i know that much. and it HAS GOT TO GO. so i'm guna talk to some people and find out how to get rid of this. so i'll post that once i find out how. woo hoo, carputer is here. oh and i also set up a sound that says "carputer on line" and "carputer off line" when i boot, and shutdown. cool huh. i found this progy called "shit talker" do a search. maybe i'll put it up for dl. And its awesome, good for crank calls, and its a computer voice, that says whatever you want. neeto!
