Grantham Swimming Club entered a team of 14 swimmers into the Northampton Open Meet in Leicester last weekend. The team put in some strong swims against very tough competition from Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Cambridgeshire, Nottinghamshire and Essex to gain many new personal bests and more qualifying times for next year's County Championships. The team also expanded the trophy cabinet with 30 medals being won. Five swimmers in the 12/U age groups won medals, which were given to the fastest 6 in each age group: Laura Pigott won 10 (2 x 1st, 4 x 2nd, 2 x 3rd, 1 x 4th, 1 x 5th), Isaac Musson won 9 (2 x 1st, 2 x 4th, 3 x 5th, 2 x 6th) while Hollie Mason, Alastair Wyatt and Sam Warner each won one medal. Three swimmers in the older age groups, where medals were only awarded to the fastest 3 swimmers, also brought home medals: James Harrison won 6 medals (3 x 1st, 1 x 2nd, 2 x 3rd.) while Callum Gould and Jake Mason both won one medal each. Laura Pigott and James Harrison both finished the weekend competition placed 10th in the overall top boy/girl categories. |
