GALA ETIQUETTE

GALA ETIQUETTE
OR
HOW TO BEHAVE AT GALAS

Wear all the Club kit that you have i.e. Jacket, Hat & Costume (Black).
When you arrive at a Gala venue make sure that your coach knows you are there.
The team manager’s instructions concerning warm-ups must be obeyed. This is to ensure that you or anyone else does not get injured and so that you are properly ready to compete.
During the Gala do not go wandering around the building. If you have to go to the toilet, ask the coach or team manager and return to the team when you are finished.
Stay with the team until the racing is finished, even if you have no more swims and support the person who is swimming.

When the Referee blows the series of short whistle blasts, remove all clothing except swimwear.
When the long whistle blast is heard climb onto the starting blocks or enter the water. It is important when the referee blows the long whistle to be absolutely quiet. This is to allow the swimmers who are about to swim to properly hear the Starters commands. This point applies to both swimmers and spectators. It is also important for spectators not to use flash photography during the start procedure. This is so that swimmers do not confuse the camera flash with the starting gear. Once the race has started please cheer as much as you like. When a start is going to happen and you are behind the blocks you must stand still. This is so the swimmers who are about to swim are not distracted.

Once the gala has finished if transport has been provided and you are returning with your parents you must let the coach or team manager know.
