The Swim-a-thon proved to be a roaring success with 86 swimmers, 11 parents and one coach all taking part! Sacha lead his team, Eat my Wave, to victory (although he does need a bit of work on his stamina!!!!) with a total of 318 lengths. In second place was Follow me this Way who swam 292 lengths. Dangerous When Wet came in third with 291 lengths and Wet ‘n’ Wild swam 289 lengths to come in forth. The overall atmosphere and team spirit was more than evident, which all the parents who kindly team managed or counted lengths commented on. The supporters in the balcony also came out in force to cheer everyone on and had even more money dragged out of them for the raffle, which raised £85 (special thanks to everyone who donated prizes).
The two highlights of the evening have to be the 12 very brave parents who swam in the parents relay race and Sacha being well and truly beaten in a 50m freestyle race against 7 senior boys - he made an excuse that he thought it was only 25 metres and also said he was too tired to race the girls so that race will definitely be on a future fixture - you can’t get out of it that easily Sacha!!!
The total amount of sponsor money that has been pledged so far is £2792.56, with more money to come so a huge thank you to all those of you who must have worked very hard to raise such a significant amount of sponsorship and exceed all expectations. Also a special mention to those swimmers who sponsored themselves-thank guys. The three prize winners will be announced early in May. We also had local businesses that sponsored the event enabling us to purchase the new hats and cover administration costs for the day and the Club would like to express their appreciation to them for their support.
Lastly the organisers would like to send out a huge thank you to all those who gave up their time on the day to help out, swim, or come along and support the event.
