Swim Around Britain

We are recording the number of miles we swim at training sessions and at Gala's the club attends. The miles swum are represented on the map below by the red line.

We started our swim at Skegness the nearest seaside town to Grantham. Each month we will update this map to show how far we have progressed on our trip around the Uk's coast.

Our swim has finally finished just in time for our summer break.  Also at this time we see our coach moving on to become a national coach for the Isles of Man. We wish him all the best and he can leave knowing we only took 84 days to swim around Britain.

Swim Around the World
Against Malaria

The staff at Speedo are logging their distances so we collectively swim around the world, an appropriate target for World Swim Against Malaria.

They need help from many fellow swimmers so please join in and add your distances on the speedo page. Don't forget to get others to join in and also get everyone you know to donate

All the nets we raise together will end up over heads and beds and protect those most at risk from from malaria, mainly children under five.

That's the real achievement.

British Coastline Facts
  • The length of the UK coastline is around 17,820 km or 11,073 miles
  • Nowhere in the UK is more than 72 miles (116km) from the coast.
  • It is estimated that around 3 million people (out of 60 million) live on the coast of the UK.
  • The geography of the UK coastline consists of a great variety of natural features. These consist of numerous islands, bays, headlands and peninsulas. Of the 1,000+ islands within the UK, only 290 are permanently inhabited. Of the remaining islands, some are used for farming and are occupied occasionally, some are nature reserves with restricted access and some are little more than sea-swept rocks.
