50 years ago, in Inu-Yasha's time, Kikyo was a priestess who was supposed to purify the Shikon Jewel. She met and fell in love with Inu-Yasha, and told him that he could purify the jewel if he became 100% human with it. However, she was killed in Naraku's trap (explained here), but came back to life by an old ogress named Urasue. Urasue stole Kikyo's bones from her grave and mixed them with earth, bringing Kikyo to life. After coming back, her heart became hard and cold. She was focused on killing Inu-Yasha as revenge. And I'll say no more. I've spoiled you enough.
