John Davidson has been the host of some of America's favorite television shows including, The John Davidson Show, Hollywood Squares and That's Incredible. His popularity soared during this period but he is now performing on Broadway, his first love. John Davidson was born in Pittsburgh on December 13, 1941, the son of a minister. He made his Broadway debut in the 1964 production of Foxy, which also starred Bert Lahr. Television producer Bob Banner who discovered such stars as Carol Burnett and Bob Newhart, was impressed with John Davidson's performance and helped guide his career in the television industry. As a tribute to his mentor Bob Banner, John ran a Catalina camp for would be performers and also wrote a book "The Singing Entertainer: A Contemporary Study of the Art and Business of being a Professional.



In 1964 he appeared on the variety show, The Entertainers. This was followed by appearances in several prime-time variety shows including the Kraft Summer Music Hall. He also co-starred with Sally Field in the television series "The Girl with Something Extra" in 1973. In 1978 John was a weekly co-host of "The Mike Douglas Show". It was in 1980 that John Davidson became a household name when he co-hosted "That's Incredible". He hosted his own show from 1980-1982.

His television career continued its climb when he became a regular on Hollywood Squares.

The John Davidson Biography



He became the host of the popular game show in 1986. This version of Hollywood Squares featured many celebrities including Joan Rivers and the popular radio announcer Shadoe Stevens.

John Davidson has recorded 12 albums, performed in various musicals and has made many movies including, The Happiest Millionaire, The One and Only Genuine Original Family Band, Coffee Tea or Me, The Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders II, Airport '79 and Edward Scissorhands. In recent years John Davidson has performed in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical "State Fair", toured with his one man show "Bully" and performed in the play "Ragtime". His first love has always been live theater and he is happy to be back on stage.

John and his wife Rhonda have three children, John Jr.(28), Jennifer(26) and Ashleigh(12). Asheigh appeared with her father in the tour of "State Fair".

John Davidson finished the Will Rogers Follies at the Papermill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ earlier this year, for which he received the Angelo Award as best actor for his portrayal of Will Rogers.

John Davidson has just finished starring as the "Father" in "Ragtime" at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts(Oriental Theater) in Chicago. The cast received great reviews and finished its run there on June 27,1999.

John starred with Morgan Fairchild in the Off-Broadway play "High Infidelity" at The Promenade Theatre in August and September of 2000. The script was written by John Dooley.
