My rating:

This was a major disappointment for me, I was hoping this film would be at least HALFWAY decent but all I got was 89 minutes of cheesy crap. The stories, acting, everything is taken down to a level that makes this film worthless. The film is decent to watch when it makes it's appearance on late night TV for a cheap thrill. My first clue was to when it went from the first being 120 minutes with a solid cast. To a 89 minute flick with no one but TOm Savini in it as a recognizable name. As done for the previous reviews, I shall do 4 seperate reviews for this film.

   "Ol' Chief Woodenhead" My rating:

This one starts out ok, but ends up being nothing but a lame slasher. It's about this convience store owner and his wife, they have been running a small convience store in this town for over 30 years, the owner has this wooden indian outside his store that he paints and what not. When the chief of a tribe comes in and leaves his people's prized possessions with the owner, he says he will give his life to protect them. The tribes leader's son comes in, and kills the owner and his wife, then the indian comes to life to seek revenge on them. This was pretty cut and dry, it was slow and the indian did most of his killing off screen which was lame. This really wasn't anything much, more of a wierd legend than a horror short. Next story....

   "The Raft" My Rating:

This one starts off cool, but ends up being pure shit. They never explain anything and the way they end it was really fucking lame. Here is the story, 4 friends go up to this lake to have a good time, there is a raft in the middle of it that they tend to like to party on so they go out to the raft this time. But one of them spots this giant oil slick in the water, turns out it isn't an oil slick, but something that looks like one but burns your flesh off. So it starts killing them one by one, trapping them on the raft and it was pretty much, the same story line as they ALWAYS have. Nothing new to see here and the monster looked like a trash bag with lilly-pads on it. Do get some nudity in it though...

   "The Hitchhiker" My Rating:

This one is my favorite out of all of them, it was entertaining but some parts of it went on for WAY to long. The re-occuring one-liner "Thanks for the ride" went from being funny to just annoying. But it was funny to see her constantly run him over and whatnot. Here is the story...When a woman is on her way home after sleeping with a jiggilo, she is trying to figure out what she is going to tell her husband. She takes a sharp turn and ends up hitting a hitchhiker on the road. Instead of staying and seeing if he is ok, she panics and drives off, of course she thinks it's over but the hitchhiker doesn't seem to want to stay dead. So he keeps on popping up over, and over, and over, and over again. Thats basically the story of this one, it was the most entertaining out of the 4  but thats not saying much considering the fact that the rest aren't really that good to begin with.

   "The Prolouge" My Rating:

This is a ongoing cartoon about a boy named Billy who gets a copy of Creepshow and he gets chased by a bully...thats the plot pretty original huh? The animation is good and I think it is what spawned "Tales from the Cryptkeeper" cartoon show but it was rather childish in my eyes. I mean, it was cool to see it but I would have rather had a more solid story carrying the movie, rather then having it be like a TV episode of Tales from the Crypt!

All in all, this is just an ok film, the DVD transfer is decent, the picture is crisp and clear even if the sound was just mediocre. I would have liked to see more features...shit...would have liked to see a better movie but hey...can't win them all. I always wondered WHY they never made a Creepshow 3 but after watching this installment, I am kinda glad they didn't. They didn't need a sequel to the first and if so, they should have done it right, not like this half assed film. You can tell half the amount of thought and time went into this film because of the way everything is put together. Very sloppy, the way they end the picture looks very amature. I felt like I was watching a bad college film short instead of a professional horror film.

I say, if you see this film on the tube when flipping through the channels, check it out, otherwise, it's nothing more then a waste of time and money. Luckily they knew when to quit with this series and haven't made 8 more, a tv show, a cartoon show and any other bullshit that usually befalls horror films. This Creepshow doesn't have any thrills or chills, just another creep you don't want to be bothered with.

"Hey, look real close at the indian in all of his shots, in everyone he is twitching and moving. Hmmm...must have been out of the budget to get a REAL statue made up . . . yeah, cause those things are a bitch nowadays!"
