Ahhhh, I have finally seen the entire film after watching only bits and pieces of it for a LONG time! Now after watching this last night with my friend, I can now say, CUBE is good! Course he said it was gay but he is a moron so who cares. The film is very creative in it's directing and storytelling, that alone is what kept me glued to the screen. The only thing keeping me from completely adoring this film was it's awkward and unsatisfying ending. Well...here is the story...
We have 5 people that find themselves TRAPPED in a cube shaped room. There are doors on each of the sides, and on the ceiling and floor. They don't know how they got there, what they are doing there, WHY this is happening, all they know is that they want to get out of there. They have been stripped of everything but clothes, like lab rats, and within 3 days, without food, or water. They will not be able to walk let alone try to get out of there. So find the exit and get out, sounds simple enough...just one small detail...pick a wrong room...and become the victim of one of the cube's many deadly traps.
As the film goes on, they discover they weren't picked out by random, something picked them for a reason. One of the people is good at math, she is needed so she can figure out which rooms are trapped and which aren't. How you ask? Because each room has numbers on it, and she figures out, that any room with prime numbers, is booby trapped. But as the film goes on, and another person ends up crashing in on them (a retarded guy who is hilarious) they find out that there own paranoia and fear is 100 times more dangerous, then ANY of the traps in this giant cube. Can they get out alive? Or will they be the victims of a overgrown rat maze? Only one way to find out!
The acting is pretty good in this movie, good performances by everyone inside the cube. The character I wish they had shown more of was Ren, he was interesting, I liked how his mind worked. The director knows what he is doing, he isn't just using this cool idea and making a regular looking film, the angles and shots are what make it look so damn cool! I love how this movie was filmed, and I bet you will to!
There is no nudity in here folks...sorry but the mentally challenged person WILL be keeping his shirt on in this movie. But we do get some NICE gore scenes to compensate for the lack of nudity! The opening sequence is pretty cool with the giant mesh and the trap with the acid in the eyes! NICE!!! I Loved that shit, didn't want that person to die though! So gore hounds, this film is a decent watch for you and your kind!
The DVD itself is packed with special features, a couple of short deleted scene that come with and without commentary, art work the whole 9 yards. The sound was pretty good, it was what I hoped for, would have been nicer had it been coming out in 5.1 but....what ya gonna do? The picture on the other hand had MUCH to be desired...pops and snares oh my! Pops and snares OH MY! Yes, I would have thought they would have done a better job cleaning it up but, it shows big time in this movie. Not really WORTH 20 bucks, but 15.99 would make this film a sweet buy for everyone!
I say, CUBE is a awesome film, it's something different, and it doesn't have the outcome you would expect. Not predictable at all and it was a pleasant surprise to see someone actually having the balls to try something new and creative. CUBE 2: Hypercube is set to be released soon, I can't wait to get my grubby little hands on that one. So Cube...4.5 rotating skulls...check it out!!!

"Then I get to listen to you bitch for 30 minutes about how he didn't use the right tools...::shakes head in disgust::
