Wow, this movie was amazing, I thought I wasn't going to like it but boy...was I ever wrong. The atmosphere is what made this film so grand, it was riddled with creepy atmosphere and it worked bigtime. The gore is...oh man...the gore...ok here is the story.
Paul and his girl friend Barbra are taking a cruise with there friends Vicki and Howard. When a freak storm rolls in, the boat is tossed and smacks onto a giant rock. Needless to say, Vicki won't be going anywhere fast because her leg is wedged between the bed and the boulder. So with water pouring in, and no way of moving the boat, Paul and Barbra take the life raft and go to the island they they saw leaving Howard behind to watch his wife. Before they get there, something hits the raft and it springs a leak. Once they get to the island, this place is deserted, no one in sight so they search for help. They find a priest who speaks spanish I think it was (damned if I know) and Barbra fills him in. The priest finds 2 fisherman who agree to take Paul out on there boat to go and try to save Vicki and Howard. He leaves Barbra behind for he didn't want her to go. Now, when Vicki is told to go to the hotel, she tries to talk with the innkeeper, to bad he has gills and webbed fingers. Along with the priest, who both nab her and then the scene cuts back to Paul. He reaches the boat and of course they are gone, they go back and Paul begins to realize later that night that these people are anything but normal, especially when he opens his window in his room and sees a giant mob of people (or so they looked) outside screaming in a bizarre langauge at him.
The film goes from there, with him trying to find Barbra and getting out of there in one piece. It reminded me of John Carpenter's "In the Mouth of Madness" might be because BOTH are based on the work of H.P. Lovecraft...but this film almost had 5 skulls but it lacked in one thing...acting...the acting was very cheesy...actually, it reminded me ALOT of Jason's goes to hell's great acting ::rolls eyes::
The directing is incredible, the atmosphere makes this film a delight to watch, I found myself actually on the edge of my seat, actually scared at some parts. That's how good it was...and it also has some NICE nudity, some ackward nudity....(don't ask) and has some kick ass gore scenes!!! All I can say is...if Ed Gein were alive today...he would be proud to know that somewhere out there...people sport his fashion statement of human flesh masks....
I say, despite the cornball acting, DAGON is a great film and I encourage everyone to see it! It is a great film to watch late one night, especially if your babysitting and you want to shut those little shits up...let them watch this and they wont EVER speak again...course they will also be in a ball rocking in the corner thinking they will have there face ripped off...but neh...small price to pay for peace and quiet!

"Ackward nudity? Yeah I guess you could call having sex with a woman that has 2 giant octopus tentacles where her legs should be ackward...also...what is up with those gills? Damn...they must call those things "Love Grips"
