Initially bred for working in cold weather, the Labrador Retriever has developed exceptional qualities in both smell and vision from their hunting origins. One estimates their olfaction cells at 220 million, twice as much as certain other dog breeds.

Compared to other large breed dogs of similar weight, Labrador Retriever dogs have an original body composition; less rich in muscle but richer in fat. That is the reason why their energy requirements are less than that of other large breeds.

The Labrador Retriever dog's heavy build combined with their active temperament puts their joints under stress day after day.

A food rich in the antioxidant vitamins E and C associated with natural sources of Glucosamine and Chondroitin help protect the joints.

Labrador Retrievers can consume any quantity of food and need rationing to avoid them becoming overweight.
