Arrived
Friday, straight from work, to find the site already filling up nicely, slight
hiccup on the way in as the exhaust gasket for my NK crumbled when I grounded on
a speed ramp. Andy said I was going
to fast over the speed ramp, but my theory is that the speed ramps are deformed,
taking on the traditional male scooterist lying on his back shape, and just to
prove him wrong, I did the same thing on the way out - still, at least I knew
what the problem was!!
Saturday
morning was spent trying to get over the hangover, wandering through a good
selection of trade stalls, and mending the scoot. Predictably the guys from Worcester Lambretta had a spare
gasket, so the beast was mended. A
new idea this year was to have an outside disco in the afternoon, playing
requests for a small donation to charity, which worked really well. Other attractions were the 5-a-side (where the ii team
surrendered a 2 goal lead in order to concentrate on more serious matters -
beer), a bungee pull, sumo wrestlers, and a couple of male streakers!!
All in all good clean family entertainment.
The
excitement was all too much for me, so I disappeared for my power nap – again,
it’s an age thing. The evening do
was as good as Friday’s but with more people.
Various tales were told of ii debauchery, and DMs even managed to produce
some photographic evidence to prove it – the David Bailey of the scootering
world! Not sure how the Souls were
planning to tow a caravan back up the M6 behind a Vespa though….
In summary, a top weekend, excellent company with a strong ii contingent, and the Brewers even managed top arrange the weather as well, which as much of the country was planting rice in paddy fields was no mean achievement. Too many ii to name individually, probably the best turn out of the year so far, and for me easily the best rally of the year - so far that is….
