BURTON CHRISTMAS DO
The
build up to our Christmas do was going well until two days before when I received a phone call to inform me that pitchie, our d.j. for the evening was
laid up in bed and would be unable to d.j. on Friday. Fortunately Tony 'one
shirt' jenksy was able to fill in for Pitchie as he was coming down with him
originally anyway.
Due to work commitments myself and Dawn could not get to the
Belvedere club until around 8:30pm, but when we arrived the room was about half
full and jenksy was busy spinning his discs and the detours had already set up
there gear on the stage. within an hour the room had filled right up with our
fellow scooterists from around the midlands who had been kind enough to attend
our bash. these included, :-Ripley harriers sc, cant start wont start sc, keep
on running sc, stoke centinals sc, kerbside sc, Nuneaton pacemakers sc, several
from Birmingham, OAJJ from Calverton hornets sc, the wreckless souls and members
of the ii, as well as a few others who had travelled individually. Also
amongst us was Mike Copeman from the S.O.G. scooter club in Bali who was over in
Burton to arrange a link up between our 2 clubs
The Detours went on stage about 9: 30 and did a good set, playing a
mixture of the who, the jam, and the kinks , all of which seemed to go down well
with the masses, as they did at brewers droop earlier in the year. Tony 'one
shirt' then returned to his disc spinning, playing a good mix of scootering
sounds including such favourites as :-John Kettly is a weatherman, Tony
Blackburn and the theme to Rupert the Bear all of which seemed to fill the dance
floor. (its amazing what you'll dance to when you've had a few).
So its a big thank you to all that attended as well as to the
Detours and Tony 'one shirt' and now its back to concentrating on brewers droop
6 at which we will also be celebrating 50 years of scootering in Burton. More
details of this special do will follow soon, so I hope to see you all there
