<Vb³>
Vb³ (pronounced
"Vee-Bee-Cubed") is a complete graphics engine, for all games. It uses DirectX 8 from Microsoft, and is capable of 2d and 3d graphics. The engine is already in use in the game Terran Force, and Holodeck. This project began in August, 2001, and will never be finshed as long as I make games, because it will be constantly updated. The current version is 0.4.4. It currently supports:
-Texture pooling for improved memory managment
-Enumeration, will use hardware if available
-Support for Microsoft's .x file format
-Full support for camera, and world rotation
-2 lighting modes, real-time coloring, and ambient
-2d and 3d graphics
-Visibility testing for higher framerate
-Backface culling
-Text overlay
-Support for bitmapped fonts
-Full Screen Anti-Aliasing
I plan to add these features:
-Support for keyboard, mouse, and joystick input
-Support for audio and 3d sound
-Customizable texture blending
-Support for billboarding
-Support for .vb3ter files (height-maps that terrains are generated from)
-Support for .vb3map files (3d levels)
-Collision detection
-Dynamic lighting
-Support for multiple cameras, and the ability to output these to textures. Could be used for mirrors.
-Depth sorting for triangles, so they alpha-blend correctly
-Animated meshes
-Support for resource files
