OK... so I'm really bad at this New Year's Resolutions business. They aren't much of a resolution unless you can actually stick to them. And of my 6, I've stuck to exactly one. Maintaining friends. and that's only because I gave myself a week to fulfill that one.
In anycase, I spent my birthday working for half a day, then I went to an indoor pool in Taiwan. And I wore a swimming cap for the first time. Swimming caps are a pain. I have a lot of hair. Hair keeps falling out of swimming cap. Must constantly check to make sure hair stays IN swimming cap. AGH.
I also spent a lot of time cleaning our house for the Vice President's big visit. We even scrubbed the street in front of our house, and found that the street was indeed paved with red clay tiles and not of brown clay tiles. Sunday morning was also spent in preparation. My grandfather rented these huge tables and chairs for dinner, and since the chairs were too ugly when naked, we put little embroidered covers on them. The VP's visit was quite a disappointment though. We spent so much time prepping, and she showed up for maybe half an hour.
However, I DID get a picture with her. Although it wasn't taken standing NEXT to her exactly... it's still a picture of me and her in the same room. =D
Man, I am SO tired. I didn't sleep a wink last night. Why you ask? Well... you can read all about the pesky mosquito here.
and then I had to make sure that I got up to say goodbye to my relatives and go off to work. and then I had to get on the bus to the airport. I slept maybe for an hour or so when suddenly I had to get checked in. And then once ON the plane the guy next to me just would NOT shut up. I mean, he was a nice guy and all and under normal circumstances, I would have been more than happy to make small talk, but I was SO tired. Since when does one talk to a person who has their eyes closed and is leaning against the window breathing evenly in and out? And when one talks to said person, and the person does not responed, does that mean to keep talking to them? And when said person finally responds to one's inane question tiredly and shuts their eyes again, does that mean that that person wants another question asked of them? NOOOOO!!!! Does one just not understand that all of the above means "I'm tired, let me sleep!"?
Anyway, today, I arrived in China.
It's actually no longer 1/5. It's the sixth. But it's damn early enough in the morning for it to be the 5th still. I am so tired. But I got up early to do my job and call all the stupid american companies that are in a different time zone and who refuse to work over time so that I can call them at a respectable time of the Chinese day. Wow... what a run-on. In any case. I get up, set up my computer, lay out all my material, pick up the phone to call our operator to transfer me to this number in the States. and it turns out the operator is off duty.
Darn operator. What are you doing off duty? Just because no normal person would be awake at 4 o'clock am making long distance calls doesn't mean that you should get any sleep! hehe. Man. What a waste of me waking up. I suppose I COULD go back to sleep. But it's really weird here. I don't think I'm supposed to sign in and out of work multiple times a day. So I'm stuck working until late tonight to try making these calls tomorrow. Maybe they'll actually show me how to make outside calls without the operator. bah. hehe.
That's enough for now.
Maybe I'll write more later.
