Arbuckle Mountains, Murray County, Oklahoma
Highway 77 about 2 miles south of Turner Falls
The rocks in this area are clearly marked by the Ardmore Geological Survey. The area we visited was a road cut along Hwy 77 on the west side of the highway. These rocks are Ordovician shales and contain many forms of invertebrates. Mainly Bryozoans.
Marshall County, Oklahoma
Highway 70 west of Madill
There was a ditch widening project occuring in the area. According to geological maps, the rocks in this area are of the Cretaceous period. Many peices of Ammonite (Fig. 1) were found as well as overwhelming numbers of snail shaped fossils (Fig. 2). Many fossiliferus rocks were also found as well as large numbers of unidentified clam and snail shaped fossils.

Highway 99 about 16 miles south of Madill just north of the Powell Access road
This was just a random stop to do some investigating. This area appears to be public land (A Oklahoma Highway Patrol Officer stopped by to see what we were doing out there in the 105 degree heat! He also gave us some tips on where to find more new road cuts in the area!) This area is covered by Cretaceous rocks, Just off the highway along the flat surface are exposed rocks. A few taps with the geological hammer revealed numerous shelled invertebrates below the surface. Up along the hill (following what appeared to be a dirt bike trail) we found scarce traces of colonial fossils possibly Bryozoan.
Okfuskee County, Oklahoma
Highway 48 south of Bearden, Oklahoma
On the east side of the highway is a road-cut through sandstone. This area of exposed rock is from the Missourian Series. The only fossils found were of unidentified plant life imprinted in the sandstone. This area will be under further investigation and we will post any other finds here.
Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma
North Canadian River
Along the riverbed a few marine invertebrate fossils have been found.
