Chapter 1
~~~~ "Jess!!! JESS!!! JESSICA OWENS!!!" Amanda Johnson yelled at her best friend.
"What?!?! Oh hey Manda. Whats up?" Jessica asked as she turned away from the boy she was flirting with.
"Dang girl. Flirting? AGAIN?" Manda laughed.
Jess turned to the guy, Derek, and said with a big grin," Sorry Derek. Mandy here needs me. But you are going to the football party after the game, right? If you want you can be my date."
"Ummm... Yeah. Of course I want to," Derek excitedly said.
"Kay, meet me by the back gate of the stadium. We'll head from there. Bye" "Bye, Jess," Derek turned around.
"Jess, one, why are you calling me Mandy. You know I hate that, and two, Derek? I mean he is cute and all but, Derek? Girl you've lost it." Manda said in reproach.
"Ahhhhh... Its all in the fun of the game of flirting. I know what you mean but Underwood and his little gang of freshman followers will mutilate me with the fact that I don't have a date. Your right, Derek is Derek, but hey, it's a date." Jess shrugged her muscular shoulders.
"Underwood bothering you again? Whats his problem?"
"No it isn't him bothering me. Its those little freshie boys who follow him around like he is a god or something."
"Him a god? Dread boy? Hardly! Why is it that they don't follow the queen of the school and the star of the team? I mean you are so much better at football then he is," Manda questioned.
"Well, he dominates defense, I dominate offense and special teams. Big difference. But all of the guys on the freshman team who play defense just adore him. He is like their master. At practice he will have at least one of them come and watch the Varsity. I kinda feel sorry for the guys, he always sends them to get him water or a towel. And cause they worship him, they dislike me cause we are always up against each other in the scrimmages."
"Ummm... Jess you lost me at the first defense,"Manda sheepishly said.
"Manda, I don't get it. You're my best friend and the head cheerleader, but you don't get football. What am I going to do with you?" Jess shook her head.
"Hey, the only thing I like about football is hot guys. And it is fun cause the cheerleaders have those little outfits you know.."
"Manda," Jessica groaned as she slapped Manda lightly. "Hey, hun. I'm a flirt and a girl... Never mind" Manda covered.
"I'm going to get you for that Manda."
"Truce, truce!"~~~~
~~~~ "Well, there is 4 seconds left in the game. Valhalla High is down 20-16. All they need is a touchdown." Bob Harolds yelled through the mic.
"I don't know Bob. They are on Trimmer High's 27 yard line. That is 73 yards to go. I'm not sure they can make it. And they are on the 4th down and 15 to go. I'm doubting that they will make it." Richard Henson said through another mic, in response to Bob's comment.
"Don't forget Bob, coach put Jessica Owens back in the game after she slightly twisted her ankle. She is limping a bit, but the Valhalla team looks pretty happy that she is back in. She is such a great player. She has already been offered scholarships to all 10 of the top 10 colleges in football.
Wait, and here is the snap, the quarter back, John Wilder, throws it long, thats at least 30 yards, and no one is in position to catch it. Wait!!! Owens is running, she might make the catch... She made it.
That was a 31 yard pass. She is running, she has Garrison on her tail. He grabs a hold of her shoulders but he can't pull her down. 20 yards left to go for the touchdown."
"Bob, your right. But Matheson is coming from the side. She's on the 10 yard line and , WAIT a sec. she was slammed into by Matheson with 6 yards to go. But she isn't down, she's flying through that air. She is flipping. And OUCH!! She lands on her stomach. I can't tell if she got the touchdown."
"What did I tell you Rich? The refs are looking at it. It is right on the line. Whichever side has most of the ball on it will get it. Everyone is silent now waiting for the fateful call..."
The announcers trailed off, waiting along with everyone else to see what the result of the call that was to end the state championship game of California High Schools. During this time the head ref turned around and headed toward the middle of the field. Upon arriving, he looked at the two teams and then their fans. Lifting his arms straight up in the air, the Valhalla side went crazy. "She made it Rich. Jessica Owens caught a 31 yard pass and ran it 41 yards for a touchdown. Valhalla High School wins the State championship!!!"
"Yep, you were right Bob. Way to go Valhalla!!! But we can't forget Jacob Underwood who handled the defense quite nicely, considering the team they were playing. He drove the Trimmer team back with each play until he himself got hurt. But he is fine folks. As you saw he was back in the game for the last 2 minutes, so no need to worry. A big Congratulations, to Valhalla High School!!!"~~~~
Chapter 2
"Jess, great game!" Chris Owens said.
"Thanks bro!" Jess said as her twin brother scooped her into a hug," You played some great defense!"
"Yeah, but they are giving Underwood all of the credit for defense. Whats with that?"
"Who knows, but you still did great. If it wasn't for you, they would have scored that second touchdown."
"Yeah, but still. Anyway, who cares. We Won!!! Valhalla takes the state championship!!!" Chris said while finally putting down Jessica, "and all thanks to my sis here. That was amazing!"
"Yeah, but I think that I need to ice down my back," Jess smiled as Chris laughed.
When they finally stopped laughing, Chris asked "You coming to the party?" "Yup, I'm taking Derek with me."
"Derek, you mean, Derek Rhodes?"
"Yeah, don't even say it Chris. I know what you are thinking but don't say it. Manda thought the same thing also," Jess warned.
"I won't, but go change so we can get going."
"Kay!" Jess ran off to the locker room.
Once she got out of the locker room and was back into her normal clothing (because of the party she was dressed in a black halter top, and black leather pants. And her black leather jacket) and started for the back gate, where she ran into Manda.
"Hey Manda," Jess said to her.
"Hey! That was awesome. Does your back hurt?" Manda questioned.
Jess laughed, "Yeah, but oh well. We won!"
"I know. But I gotta go. Jeremy and I are going to go to the party, but you know we can't ride the bus. But, great game Jess," Manda said before she left.
"Thanks Manda" Jess walked to the back gates of the football field.
During her little walk everyone who went to Valhalla stopped to congratulate her and tell her to tell the rest of the team great game. After about an half hour she finally reached the back gate. There she met up with Derek.
"Ready?"Derek asked with a smile when she got next to him.
"You bet I am" Jess answered as they started to walk toward the bus.
"Oooo Derek has a date and it's lil miss Jessica Owens," was the first thing that reached them as they both got onto the large team bus.
"Stuff it, Forger," Jess shot back. " I don't need any of your crap right now."
"Derek, what do you see in her. She may be on hot chick but she acts like a guy." Jerry Forger, a freshman defense tackle, insulted.
"Got a problem with it, Jerry?" Derek tried to defend Jess.
"Yeah she's a GIRL" Another Jacob follower said as he stood up from his seat.
"She maybe a girl but she's one heck of a ball player"Derek said as he started to walk toward Kline Hendrickson..
"Oh, big bad Derek. Coming to get me," Kline said as he and the rest of the followers burst into laughter.
"OK!" Jess said as she walked up to Derek and pulled him to a seat and sat him down.
"Those guy's get on my nerves"Derek said.
"Mine too," Jess said.
"Yeah dont worry about them though their nothing but stupid idiots"Derek said. "I won't Derek," Jessica said as she turned her head away and rolled her eyes in annoyance. Thinking to herself she asked how could anyone like Derek act so...dense.
