Pokemon Snap
Take a picture with da Pokemon!?
Yes, it sounds incredibly odd,Pok'mon snap. But considering the success of Pocket Monster dolls, figurines, socks, medals, stickers, games and posters in Japan, Japanese gamers are going to go nuts over any chance to meet face to face with the popular gang.
As with most N64 titles, the graphics are fully polygonal. Creatures are rendered in detailed 3D and animated fluidly thanks to real monster motion capturing. If and when you manage get close enough to one of the monsters, this is your opportunity to strike . You set out from the Pokemon research center in a strange vehicle known as the 'Zero One', headed for Pokemon Island. While it can traverse all kinds of terrain, the Zero One is basically on rails and can't be controlled by the player. Once you arrive at your location on the island, it's up to you to work out the best approach for tracking the animals, bearing in mind that some fly, some swim way out to sea, and others move quickly on the ground or even burrow. Depending on what you do, the outcome may vary. For example, throwing an apple at Electrode sitting in front of a rock wall may cause the monster to blow up and take down the rocks behind it. This will open up a new area previously hidden from the player's view. At other times, throwing an apple or a stink ball into a cave could lure out a shy creature that would have otherwise never come out of its dwellings. The ultimate goal, of course, is to get a good shot of the most elusive Pokemon of them all: Mew.
You only have a limited number of exposures on your roll of film, and once taken, you have to refill back at the lab, so careful composition of the shots and waiting for exactly the right moment to take the pictures is essential. Once you're back at the lab, you can take a look at all your pics and decide which ones you want to show Professor Oak and which ones you want to keep in your own Pokemon album. Oak will rate the pictures according to different criteria, such as pose, composition, size of the Pokemon and so on.
