  The east gate is not just you typical barrack gate but it is connected to the headquarters for the city guards. This is also connected to the training facility for city guards. This is one of the central point of Amber's defense and is all but un-takable. The East gate is the moral center of the city guards and they would all lay down their life rather see it fall.
