Rebuild 83 |
Description: Over 6 meters high and one meter in diameter the blue stone Pillar of victory is topped with a brass bell. The bell had stood there in one fashion or another since the point was founded for it was the original alarm bell for the district. In the year 83 the old rotten wood pole was replaced by it's current stone base. It was not longer used as an alarm bell but was not wrong whenever the fleets of Amber achieved a great victory.
A tradition started in 87 of the Graduating naval cadets of the Naval School getting together and ringing the bell. Because it is near the Marine barracks it was a taunt that could not go unanswered. Since that time the battle of the bell has been fought after the graduation ceremony and before the graduation ball in the evening. This pits the more numerous Navy cadets against the well prepared but out numbered Royal Marines of the local armory.
Whenever a Naval class gets to the bell it is then referred to as a Bell class. This is a good luck sign in the fleet. Due to some rather strange shifting of manpower the marines at the local Naval Armory seemed to have gotten bigger and bigger. It is some sight to see the tricks, traps and fighting that goes on.
Notably tricks by the Marines: have been steeling the bell from the top of the pillar in 97, The great bonfire of 109 and lets not forget in the year 111 there just happen to be an extra company of Marines in Amber.
