The Western Redoubt is a key installation of the City Guards of Amber. From here there great engines can hurl both steel tipped spears and great bundles of stone far out across the opening of the Bay. Forcing Entrance into Amber would be exceptionally costly as long as this Redoubt is alert and prepared.

Once under the command of the fleet it is now part of the city guards responsibility. The Equipment here is still maintained by Cadets from the naval School who come here to learn about the operation and care for heavy weapons of warfare. As much as 1/3 of the manpower in this guard post is made up of these naval cadets for they train for not only artillery duty but Garrison duty as well.

The Western Fortification is known to have never struck its colors. In the OSW wars it held out while being over run and at great cost stopped a White Raider looting party from sweeping into Amber herself. For this the redoubt proudly fly's a blood red flag symbolizing what they are ready to loose to protect Amber.
