Harbor District

Description: One of the roughest districts in all of Amber. Located on the Northwest corner of the harbor it is part of old Amber. This area has been a blight on the one true city since before the PFW. Though not as bad as it has been in times past, it is still no place to be at night for the unwary. Here the Constables only marginally rule the day take shelter in the dark unless forced into action. It is a claustrophobic, dirty, smelly area of group homes, flophouses and warehouses that have seen better days. Dockhands, sailor thieves and down on there luck fill the roads all looking for a way out even if that means you.

Type of Homes: The one time wealth of the Harbor district is apparent in the number of converted town manors and large homes that line the streets. That day of wealth and glory are long gone and the once great hoses of the harbor district have been left to squatters, given over to drinking halls or converted into rentals. No matter what type of home you want it's here, it just will not be in very good shape and filled with unsavory types.

Type of Roads: The roads here spotty patches of mud spaced out between cobble stone and flat stone. Notoriously flooded with standing pools, smelly and generally dangerous the poor conditions of the roads gave rise to the underground. The underground was first used by Merchants to unload ships without worry of robbery or getting stuck in the roads. A few of the more heavily armed merchants still use the underground but it has been taken over by criminal and the shadier element of Amber. Some say that there are shops and people living down there an entire city under the city on the underground roads of the Harbor.

History: At one time, though no one has ever heard of when, the Harbor district must have been the home to many well off merchants, All about the district are faded clues to what must have been better times.

Over time the creeping degradation and filth has won it's battle and despite the many Ernest attempts of Governor General of Amber it is still a rat hole. It has gotten to the point now that few even try to clean up the Harbor.

The harbor does provide a unique opportunity to pass blame however. To listen to the broad sheets and you would think that only the harbor districts produce criminals or have any crime at all. Nothing stirs people up like an outrage from the Harbor. A murder or two really gets the sheets moving on the street corner.

Current Information: Rumors speak of gangs in the Underground steeling away innocents. There is also an attempt being made by a small merchant group to assist the Constables in bringing about more order to the streets after dark.
