Rules Categories Submit Entries Winners Site

Red_Thread : Rules

Every single person who is participating in this contest, judges and submitters alike, should read this page at least once. These rules are subject to change.

There is also a new FAQ after the rules listed below.

If you still have questions, feel free to contact us, but please make sure your question isn’t already answered somewhere on this website. Otherwise it kind of defeats the purpose. :)

And on we go!

{Last update: 10/12/02}

1. All entries must be about Detective Conan or Magic Kaito. I know it sounds stupidly obvious, but you never know.

2. All judging decisions are final. No flaming, whining, or complaining if you didn’t win.

3. If any entry does not comply by the rules listed on this page, it will be deleted. Red Thread has the right to delete entries without informing the author.

4. All judges are, and must remain, anonymous persons. Very few know the full list of judges, and it should stay that way. However, rest assured that all are knowledgeable fans of Conan and are generally good writers themselves (i.e. they have decent grasps on grammar, sentence structure, plot, canon, etc).

5. No lemons may be entered. This rule may change, but as of now some of us are underage.

6. Categories may have up to two winners, but there may only be one winner for the three main categories. However, for those three categories honorable mentions may be given.

7. Judges may enter their own fics, but please inform me what categories they are in – no judge will be assigned to judge a category their fic is entered in. This way, things stay fair and no one can complain about favoritism.

8. Entries can be submitted in up to three (3) different categories. However, each author may have only two (2) entries per category. For details on the categories, click here.

9. Only .htm/.html (HTML) entries will be accepted. Do not paste your entire story into an email for submission! It also wins brownie points if your story is formatted nicely – preferably, black text on white background. But that’s just nitpicking.

10. Entries of the previous year will be deleted at the start of the next contest.

11. If a link is given for a story submission, please make sure the link is accurate and direct. If any links do not work, the entry will be deleted. Honestly, we would prefer links as opposed to sending us the files.

12. Incomplete multiparts may only be submitted for the Best Work-in-Progress category. No other categories!

13. Any changes (email, link, etc.) to the entry list must be reported before the cutoff date.

14. There must be at least three (3) entries in a category for it to be run.

15. Once an entry is received, a confirmation e-mail will be sent to the author. Please make sure the email address is accurate! If the confirmation e-mail bounces, the entry will be deleted.

16. Entries will only be accepted during the specified submission time. Any entries received before or after those dates will be deleted.

17. Fics that have already won at Red Thread will not be allowed to enter again.

18. Author archive pages may not be submitted as story links. Any entries that submit archive pages as story links will be deleted. You may, however, send me the individual parts of a multi-part story, and I will post them up.

19. Be careful when selecting your categories! If a judge finds a entry that has been submitted into an "extremely poor category choice" (a deathfic in a Comedy category, for example) the judge may disqualify the entry.
