The third largest of the Major Departments, the Department of Defense operates all branches of the military, and provides the national security Lukeonians have come to expect from their government.
The Department of Defense regulates and operates the entire Lukeonian military, with the exception of the National Volunteer Army, which is a private, closely watched civilian organization. It has the second fewest divisions of all the Departments, with only six:

The Constitution of the Republic of Lukeonia states that the Department of Defense "shall provide National Security, maintain the Military, and protect Lukeonian Borders from any Invaders or Others seeking to destroy, anarchize, annex, or otherwise harm, damage, divide, or conquer the Nation of Lukeonia..."
Heading the responsibilities of this Department is the Secretary of Defense, the highest ranking military official in Lukeonia. The Secretary of Defense coordinates all the branches of the Military, and ensures that all subdivisions work efficiently in concert to make the Lukeonian Military as effective a defense force as it can be.
