The Department of Public Works, which is the fourth largest Department in the Lukeonian Government, serves to provide virtually all government operated buildings, utilities, and other Public Works projects.
The Department of Public Works builds and operates almost all government owned buildings, as well as all public trails, roads, streets, and highways. The Department of Public Works also operates all utilities within the Republic of Lukeonia. The Department of Public Works has the third most subdivisions, including:
The Department of Transportation
The Department of Water Systems
The Department of Energy Systems
The Department of Public Buildings
The Lukeonian Constitution states that the Department of Public Works "shall provide and maintain an infrastructure within the Nation of Lukeonia, and build and maintain all buildings to be occupied and used by a division or extension of the Government..."
There are eleven major government subdivisions within the Department of Public Works, all of which work with other departments to provide the infrastructure and facilities as stated in the Constitution.
A brief description of each major DPW subdivision:
The Department of Transportation builds and maintains all Lukeonian roads, as well as regulates everything having to do with moving people and goods from place to place, from automobile pollution caps to new commercial aircraft designs.
The Department of Water Systems provides all water utilities in Lukeonia. It also handles such things as maintaining water purity and the safe disposal of sewage and wastewater. The DWS builds and operates all water treating and distributing structures.
The Department of Energy Systems builds and runs all electric power plants, and maintains the entire Lukeonian Power Grid. It also provides all the natural gas and heating oil consumed by Lukeonia.
The Department of Public Buildings builds and maintains all Government owned and operated buildings, whether the DPB operates them or not. The Department of Public Buildings maintains all Government buildings, from the Statue of Liberty to the Lukeonian Capitol Building, to Greenwhite Manor (the President's house--guess what color it is!) to the phone booths in New York City.
