U. S. Geological Survey Geophysicist/Programmer

I held several positions in the USGS including Chief of the Special Seismological Analysis Project studying nuclear explosions, Chief of the Prediction Monitoring and Evaluation Project which accepted earthquake predictions from all sources and evaluated their accuracy and Chief of the Computer Support Project which procured PCs for the Branch and wrote programs for them. Much of my work involved programs to create maps on the PC screen and plot earthquakes on them. One of these, the Interactive Mapping Program (IMP) was distributed world-wide to Universities and other research centers. A copy of it can be downloaded from my Web site.

1971 - 1978
N.O.A.A. (Dept. of Commerce) Geophysicist

Responsible for monitoring underground nuclear explosions by obtaining and analysing seismograms from around the world and compiling the data into a technical report for an outside Agency.
A TOP SECRET security clearance was required.

Everyone left NOAA when it dropped seismology. The entire group was picked up by the USGS, which moved the office to Golden CO.

1963 - 1971
U. S. Coast and Geodetic Survey Geophysicist
Same as with NOAA. The USC&GS was reorganised into NOAA.

1960 - 1963
U. S. Naval Oceanographic Office Geophysicist
This position involved operating a LaCoste and Romberg
gravimeter at sea, doing oceanographic mapping. The project was classified as to purpose and results.
A TOP SECRET clearance was required.
