In the Social Republic of Schwerdt, the age of majority is twenty. Citizens who have reached the age of majority may vote in elections. Regular elections take place on first Monday in December during an election year. Republican elections take place twice each decade—once in the middle and once at the end. Election Day is a legal public holiday.
In concert with the election schedule, terms of office at the Republican level are five years. The Chancellor of the Realm was elected to a ten year term but the term was reduced o five years in 1989. There is no limit on the number of terms that may be served.
Eligibility for Office
All candidates for public office must be citizens who are at least the age of majority. They must meet all lawful eligibility requirements.
Assembly of the Republic candidates must be residents of the district they wish to represent.
Candidates for the office of Chancellor of the Realm must be actively serving in the Military Services. They must also be at the senior command level (Field Marshal or General Field Marshal).
