| SCD.EXE v.1.21
SCD.exe is
primarily a very, very clever file-splitter; and provides
a useful mechanical service; it splits off, and can merge back, a particularly
vital piece from a Scramdisk container and save it out to a separate file; so
that it can be hidden and protected from cracking engines, packet-sniffers, or the amazing variety of software and hardware keyloggers. SCD.exe makes no modifications to ANY of Scramdisks core functions.
Scramdisk containers can be thought of as being comprised of two distinct parts.
The main container, with encrypted data, and that first portion of code that Scramdisk
uses to validate the hashed password and encryption algorithm; which I'm referring to as the
"key-block". The word, "SCD'd" (skid-ded), is the best description I could think of for what Scramdicer does to a container...it may not be proper, but you'll know what it means when it crops up in my texts :)The image to the right here is meant to help you visualize the concept of the container being comprised of sections :) This keyblock portion is static, and never changes...but the main container will be altered everytime something is added or removed from it. The code in the Scramdisk containers that SCD removes/merges, the "key-block", is the part that Scramdisk uses to statistically validate the password nfo and chosen cypher. Removing this critical block of data and hiding it elsewhere will effectively harden the security of your containers. They cannot be opened or cracked by any known method until this section of code is restored to the container. They will not be recognised as being Scramdisk volumes either. The modified volume will look to all the world like completely random data. Splitting off the key-blocks with SCD is especially effective when storing backups on removable media, such as Zip-disks, CD’s and DVD’s; but it will also secure working containers. In addition, (the clever part) it does the splits/restorations without requiring a re-write of the entire original file; so it works extremely fast. This application is meant to be used on stand-alone containers produced with "Traveler Mode" installations of Scramdisk; but will work with any SD container, of any size; including those made with the Win2k/NT version. This utility has not been tested on Scramdisk partitions. The new Mask and Compare functions work as fast as the split/merge function of the original SCD.exe. |
