DID YOU KNOW...

V.C.'s original name was Cleo Virginia Andrews, although people called her Virginia.

V.C. Andrews was born in Portsmouth, Virginia

She was one of three children born to William Henry Andrews and Lillian Lilnora Parker Andrews.

When V.C. attended Robert E. Lee Grade School, she was so exceptional that she was allowed to skip both the 3rd and 6th grades.

It has been said that V.C. used some of her own life experiences for the basis of some of her novels, but she was not willing to give out which information that is.

During high school, V.C. fell down a staircase and injured her hip in an accident. The fall resulted in the development of bone spurs, which in turn caused the arthritis.

V.C. used a wheelchair due to juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.

At fifteen, V.C. won a scholarship for a parody she wrote of "Idylls of the King" by Tennyson.

V.C. Andrews completed a never-published novel called The Gods of the Green Mountains in 1972.

V.C. also completed nine novels and 20 short stories before "FITA" was published. One short story in particular was titled "I Slept with My Uncle on My Wedding Night" which was eventually published in a pulp confession magazine.
(No, I do not know where to find this short story. Sorry!)

"Flowers in the Attic" was orginally titled "The Obsessed" but the publisher asked her to spice it up and history was made...

She was named "Professional Woman of the Year" by the city of Norfolk, VA in 1984.

When V.C. Andrews passed away in 1986, she died of cancer in her home in Virginia Beach, VA.

She is buried in the Olive Branch Cemetery in Portsmouth, VA.

Just another coincidence? V.C.'s parents names are Lillian and William -- the names of the grandparents at Cutler's Cove... Do you think the ghostwriter knew that or was it in her outline? Hmmm...

V.C. has two brothers, Bill (Jr.) and Gene.

Quoted from the book, "V.C. Andrews, A Readers Checklist and Reference Guide" -- "His (Neiderman) first project was 'Garden of Shadows' (1987), the prequel to the Dollanganger Series. The book was an instant success and he followed it with the last three books in the Casteel Series."

Though V.C. made a cameo appearance in the movie version of FITA, she did not live to see it released.
I have received SOOOO many emails about when, where, who, why, and what of her cameo. I do not have specific details though I have seen the cameo enough by now. However I will state it is from an outside view of Foxworth Hall during the daytime. It is very quick so you just have to be looking for it really. Keep your eyes open for a maid washing a window from the inside: blonde hair, shown from shoulders up. That's her.
