In the beginning of the story when Audrina is talking about the rhymes that Vera taught her about the colours, she says, "Step on black, live forever in a shack." But later on she doesn't want to step on black in case she "breaks her mothers back." Where did that come from? --Lis

I think the phrase was step on a crack, break your mothers back. *shrugs*
