During it's early development the game we now know as Shenmue was known as 'Project Berkley'. The game was originaly planned as a Virtua Fighter RPG but later renamed Project Berkley since the game seemed to be taking a different turn from traditional RPGs. Later on in 1998 with the purchase of a Japanese Virtua Fighter 3TB game you would receive a Project Berkley Demo Disk featuring a long movie clip of the planned RPG. As development went on, Project Berkley was renamed Shenmue. If you walk though the Red Light District in Shenmue (Where All The Bars Are Located) you'll notice the word 'Berkley' spray painted on the walls. It's a pretty cool reminder of the game's old name. Pictured above is the Project Berkley Disk and below are some screen shots of the movie clip.
