Dave 14/01/2003 After the shock of the news about Shenmue 3 being a movie, we can settle down for abit as PlanetXbox has confirmed that AM2 currently have no plans for the movie and would find it silly to produce it without there being a game. ~This is in my words, visit planet xbox for the real deal :D James 09/01/2003 There's been this new interview done by a new magazine recently with Yu Suzuki. The magazine is called GMR and is co-published by Electronics Boutique and Ziff Davis Media. Here's a small part of the interview that raises some attention - GMR: With Shenmue II completed, can you tell us about Shenmue III? We know you had to compress multiple chapters into Shenmue II because of cost constraints. Will you have to further condense the series? Suzuki: The series will continue, but I think we will go with a different approach for Shenmue III. I'd like to make the next chapter into a movie. GMR: A CG movie, kind of like the one on the free DVD that comes with Shenmue II? Suzuki: Yes. GMR: Is it true that Shenmue originally began life as a Virtua Fighter RPG? Suzuki: That's something of an urban myth. When we were first planning the game, Akira (from Virtua Figher) was scheduled to be the main character, and the working title was Akira's Quest. As development progressed, we felt it would be better to start with a brand-new character. Is Yu seriously planning on making Shenmue 3 a movie? I hope not, but if it is true lets just hope he pulls it off well. However if you read the movie bit again it says 'the next chapter' and as Shenmue 3 should really make up a few chapters he might just be deciding on the first chapter of Shenmue 3 to be a movie, which would be quite cool IMO. This would mean that maybe the continuation of the Gulin bit will be in a nice movie quality and feel. If anyone's familiar with the game Shadow Of Memories, then I think that this could be the approach that Yu will take. Have the first chapter (or the first few in SOM situation) of the game just telling the story in movie form, then the rest of the game just gameplay. What do you think? Tech TV had Shenmue II on their show recently as one of the best XBOX games of 2002. It was pretty much the same as any other review talking about the bad dubbing but talks about glitches such as people fading into the distance much like the dreamcast version. Dave 22/12/2002 Lan DC from Shenmue Dojo forums as made a startling discovery on the Shenmue II XBOX disc. He says when he was looking through the files of Shenmue IIx on his PC he saw a folder which contained all the loading screens. One said Miao Village and another said Miao Guang Temple. We are wating to see if mabye these places can be unlocked or seen somehow on Shenmue IIx, he also found messages from the Dreamcast version of the game such as "insert VMU to save". A quote from the maker says "Okay, everybody, check this out. I made the level even more detailed already. It looks so eerily like Shenmue that I could have fooled myself into believing how well it looks now. I took out all of the crappy trees and put in new ones definitely worth checking out. The texturing ripping is now gone and the game's framerate is locked at 30. Any more detail and I'd be sweating bullets. Oh, you'll also notice that in the last shot, the main character, Ryo, has a rake in his hand. You're seeing actual gameplay, not just running around on a fake environment. Have you ever noticed the bandage on Ryos cheek. whilst playing Shenmue today i encountered a cut scene which wasent in the prima guide, it is a conversation between Ryo and Gui Zhang. Apparantely the bandage was from playing with Iwao's sword when he was younger. It was a permanent scar and it always left a mark.
