A Nightmare on Elm St. Staring the
grotesque and memorable Freddy Krueger, A
nightmare on Elm St. is one of those films that
is totally creepy, yet quite funny too. The 70's
and 80's had plenty of creapy-funny movies, this
one manages to pull this off quite well, but it
did leave me asking, "is this a parody or
just plain strange?" I won't spoil the plot
for anyone who hasn't watched it yet, but a quick
summary is; Nancy(Heather Langenkamp) and her
friends are having nightmares about Freddy, since
he is dead he can only appear in their dreams.
Then the things happening in her dreams start to
overlap in to reality. When Nancy and her friend
Glen(Johnny Depp) try to fight Freddy in their
dreams he starts to become more real. Throughout
the many dream sequences Freddy kills more people
and eventually it's hard to tell weather or not
the characters are dreaming or not. This is an
intentional effect to emphasize the dreams
becoming reality and vice versa. Overall the film
has a decidedly creepy plot, but the actual way
it's portrayed makes it some what comic!
+ It's a
well acted film which could keep you entertained
for a while, a good one to rent for a film night
with friends since it's lightly humorous horror.

Generally there's little wrong with A Nightmare
on Elm St. if you like this genre, perhaps some
of it was too silly or funny to be genuinely
scary though.
