Big 80's Hair guide: "Dear, oh
dear!" Was the phrase hovering on the lips
of every gran in the 80's upon seeing the latest
fashions being sported by her grand children. The
hair styles in the 80's are one of the most
memorble things about the decade, if only because
of their size. If you want to add an 80's touch
to your hair the first thing to do is triple the
size of it, yes you read right triple the
size. Now this may sound easy to anybody who has
never had big hair before, you are extreamly
mistaken there. Of course you have quite rightly
observed that such hair destrying weather
problems like rain, wind and freak hurricanes
make your small style biger, but as with all hair
styles they do the opisite of what you realy
want. Thus big styles are 'deflated' by these
problems or worse you start to look like a yeti!
Amusing as it may be, it realy dosen't help you
acheive that sophsticated stylish image you'd
probably like, so this info guide is aimed at
people who do not want to look like a yeti. Now
don't get me wrong as a person who loves their
giant 80's hair, I belive these styles are worth
the extra effort, and can be relatively easy to
mantain. So lets get on with the guide, firstly
as somone who has had several large styles and
now sports a fairly large mans style that goes
with my 80's image, I know about big hair. I
would say the most obvious thing is to get a good
hair cut, talk to your hair dresser about what
you realy want to have done since it is worth the
time, also a picture is great to take as a guide
for them. Remember a picture speaks a thousand
words, effectively saving you the bother of
having too. Another peice of advisce is to talk
to the stylist about having some texture, I
persanaly like to have loads of texture, but it's
your call. Now that you have your hair cut how
you want you have to keep it looking nice, of
course as with any new style ask the
hairdresser's advisce on what products to use
since they'll know better than me having cut it.
But a good rule to follow is if you're like me
you'll have plenty of hair products lying around,
now look at them and if you have any with such
phrases as; natural hold, caring, gentle styling
or plain usless on them, throw them away. Yes I
said ditch them / fling them the the far side of
the earth because anything that says that won't
work, you'd probably have better results
performing Voodo ceromonys on your hair brush
than you will with those crapy products! I know
you want to belive those claims, I know I would
like to, but there are unfortunatly no wonder
hair products that let your hair fly around
'naturaly' in the breeze then as if a mirical had
happend drop back just where it should be. This
isn't TV! It's not like everytime a refreshing
gust of wind goes by the camera stops rolling and
a $40 an hour stylist fixes it, then they can
film again leaving you looking perfect for all of
ten more minutes! Those telly people might be
able to chase the bad guys through rain, mud and
blizzards and emerge from it with imiculate hair,
but here in the real world we have to survive the
long hours of reality and still look good. So, do
your self a favour get some good hair styling
products. Besides who actuarly needs the
inifective ones, you could just use less of the
good ones for the same effect? Note: Helpfull
products usualy have things like; mega hold,
super hold and maximum control on writen on them.
One way of
getting some bounce in your hair is volumising
shampoo, it's not great but it creates a
noticeable difference that really helps with
shorter men's styles, and can help with woman's
hair as well. After the volumising shampoo while
it's still damp rub in some gel, this is great
for men and woman's styles since it helps control
the hair and creates even bounce later. Now all
you have to do is wait for it to dry, or use the
hair dryer to bounce it up and it should be fine.
This is about all I do with mine and most days it
looks nice, and it's easy since it takes around
15 minutes every other day to do this.
For longer
styles use a volumising hair dryer attachment,
they are wonderful at making hair big. Also
heated hair brushes can help, a good hint is to
dry the roots first. This causes the hair to get
bigger at the top, solving the annoying big
sides, flat top problem.
