Though Carrie is a woman of many talents, including screenwriting, writing books, acting, and being a good mom, most people remember her as the charismatic Princess Leia in the movie Star Wars. But there is more to Carrie Fisher then meets the eye.
She was born on October 21, 1956 in Beverly Hills, California. She is the daughter of Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher. When Carrie was two, her father ran off with Elizabeth Taylor, leaving behind Carrie, her mom, and her younger brother, Todd.
Carrie wanted to act, as her mom did, and dropped out of school at 15 to travel with her mother on Broadway. (She later got her GED and attended college in London.) When she was 17, she made her acting debut in Shampoo, where she played Lorna, a precocious teenager who wanted to score with Warren Beatty. When she was 19, she started filming the first of the Star Wars movies, which would make her a household name and the fetish of teenage guys.
But sadly, she paid for this fame. She tried to subdue her manic-depression with cocaine and Percodan. (For all of you non-medical folks, Percodan is a painkiller which can be habit-forming) She came to a screeching halt when she ended up overdosing and had to have her stomach pumped. (I wonder if she really gave the guy her phone number...) Anyway, she went into rehab and got straightened out. She started anew, writing three novels over a six-year period and also doing a few movies. Things were going good. Or so she thought...
She ended up having a bad reaction with some of her medication she was taking for bipolar, had to get off of it for six days or so, and went a bit off the deep end. If you want more info, check out the Primetime Thursday interview in the article section.
Carrie lives with her daughter Billie, who was born by her second husband (I think), Bryan Lourd. Lourd ended up leaving her for a guy, but they still remain friends.
