The origional band assembled in high school. The intent was to play straight dub, reggae and rocksteady although it was very much an alien style for the members of the group, consequently, in the begining the grooves were often rigid and unauthentic. As the group aquired familiarity and confidence with reggae the grooves tightened up but, it seemed as if cats were content to remain a second tier Bob Marley cover band. It got to a point where I was like, "dag no one wants to take any initiative." So in an attempt to gain some direction and fortify comitment, I began writing tunes in the style that would become our signature. The early idea was like, some heptones, old style soul shit. Progress was slow as hell, but we managed to record and EP and really nail down a unique sound that would include elemements of Jungle/Drum n' Bass, Hip Hop, Dancehall, and Rock. The CD was well received but frequent pot smoking and general lack of drive ment the band would never perform live. The group dispersed to college and that was that.

So...

Whatever. It was what it was.

I took a year to chill before I went to school. I wanted to make some cash, build up my studio, improve my graff and read shit that wasn't forcably thrust upon me by well-intentioned instructors. I was convinced that the "idea" still had a lot of life in it so i made certian to hook up with some musicans that could hold it down. I came in contact with Ben and Steve through an add online. They were in this slick jazz, funk , drum n'bass type trio that was about ready to break up. We jamed a couple times and it really clicked; they were some of the most versitle, tight, devoted and tasteful musicans i have been in leauge with. When I asked if they knew any guitar players who would be interested in getting down with us they immediatly came up with and handfull of names but Shannon was the last guitar player they contacted. They were hesitant to ask him simply because he was in a group which had been together for 10 years. They had assured me, though, that if he agreed to join us we'dd be set, and they were quite right. Shannon is very much a musicians musician; tastefull, a quick learner and a solid improvisor. Steve Smith said it: "playing with musicians of this calliber...it makes everyones game better". The new group has inspired a new level of compositional quality for me. It's really no-holds-barred shit now.
