 Issue #01 02/02/03: Paramount Edition
Tom Cutterham, Editor, Paramount Edition

Paramount Refounded
The nation of Paramount, originally founded as a successor to the Great Automatic People's Republic in the Ancient Apollonian era, has been refounded by John Sager and Thomas Hubert.

With the publication of the Principles and Guidelines of Paramount the People's Republic of Paramount was announced on the 25th of January. At the head of the loosely defined populist government is Supreme Consul Thomas Hubert, a.k.a. ElDorni, notorious in some parts of the micro-world for inciting socialist revolutions in several countries. Alongside him as Deputy Consul is John Drake Sager of Audentior and old Paramount.

In the first official Paramount activity outside of its own board, the Paramount government has negotiated land on the MCS map, in the southern part of the Babkhan continent. Discussion in the country has so far revolved around the land claim, government appointments and the creation of an economy.

First Citizens Appointed to the Government
The first three citizens of Paramount other than the two founders were each appointed to government positions between the 27th and 29th of January.

Ruhan Zarathustra Erutirn, Secretary General of the Assembly of Micronations, has been made Minister of Economics; Robert Clarke is Minister of the Exterior, and Thomas Cutterham was given the Ministry of Culture & Information. All three were also appointed members of the People's Command Council.

The new Economics Minister has already set about adapting the Varjan and Baracãoan economies for Paramount, the Exterior Ministry has received greetings from the Empire of Attera, and the Culture & Information Minister has outlined plans for a museum of Paramount and Spanish Civil War culture.

International Response to Paramount Refounding
Supreme Consul Thomas Hubert's messages of goodwill to the major nations of the micro-world have been met with a varied response.

Some have criticised the People's Republic as "dictatorial", mostly on the evidence that the forum description of the Supreme Consul calls him the "absolute ruler of Paramount." Were they to read the Principles and Guidelines they might see that, far from having dictatorial powers, the Supreme Consul "must always rule by the will of the people."

Others have met the country's return with cautious optimism. Antonio Ramon of Baracão deserves particular commendation for his reasonable and peaceful response to Paramount, despite agitation by some of his fellow Baracãoans.

Interview: "Give Peace, and Hubert, A Chance"
Communal Voice: Paramount Edition: Why start Paramount when the micro-world already has Politika, Baracao, Feianova and other leftist states?

Thomas Hubert: We haven't really started Paramount, Paramount has always been around for many years. I've always loved Paramount because of it's revolutionary ideals. We're all about popular will, we don't do stuff in a highly detailed way; when stuff needs to be done it happens. No waiting, no special interest groups: we are a united nation of the people.

CVPE: What are your hopes for Paramount?

TH: I hope for Paramount to become the leading socialist state in the microworld.

CVPE: Do you want to lead Paramount all the way, or do you plan on stepping down and taking some other role in the future?

TH: Whatever the people want: if they want an election for a new leader I will not stop them from starting a petition for a direct election.

CVPE: What is your response to those who question your motives on the evidence of your past?

TH: The people who question my doings will always do so, there is no changing their minds on my existence. I appreciate the friendship I have gained with many people who hated the 'Hubert Character' and as for those who still bear a grudge against me there is little to say, except for I hope they eventually change their minds.

CVPE: Do you regret any of your past actions?

TH: Yes. I wish I would have joined micronations 'for real' as myself instead of as the destructive character I did.

CVPE: What are your hopes for Paramount in terms of foreign relations? Do you think you'll ever be able to turn the naysayers around?

TH: The foreign world will view us as they view us. And to be honest I really don't care what they think. If they are a decent country and they offer a hand of friendship we will accept, if they hate us and have not a reason to there is little we can do to change their minds.

CVPE: Thank you very much, Mr Hubert.
