Romeo & Juliet Tutorial
This is my first dolling tutorial! Can you believe it? I made a Juliet (from Romeo & Juliet) doll once, and a friend suggested I made a tutorial for them,
as they are apparently quite hard! Romeo & Juliet are © William Shakespear, but the dolling outfits are based after the 1996 film, Romeo and Juliet
(I recommend you go see it! It's my favorite movie!).
The results at the end of the tutorial is |C| to me, so you can't copy my hair, outfit, ect. pixelxpixel. Anyways, you wouldn't learn anything that way! x_X
Please link back if you use this tutorial, and found it
useful! ^_^
Turtles Note: It is recommended that you have Paint Shop Pro Version 8 or 9, however it is not
nessacary. Simply ignore the layer stuff if you are using Paint. It is also recommended that you pop the DVD in your computer,
and watch the film to understand what I am talking about. o_O
Juliet
We are making Juliet in the costume she wears when she meets Romeo. She is in the Capulet Mansion, and is at her familys
party. If you remember the film, it is where Tybalt confronts Juliets father about Romeo Montague being in the party.
It is very pretty and looks sort of angelic.
1. First off, since we are making a couple, run over to Angy-Chans Dollz and get an
old-fashioned manga couple base (caucasion). Focus on the Female base in the couple, because we are working on Juliet. xD
Set up your base, and prepare it for editing.
2. All done? Good! ^_^ First we are going to draw Juliets' Costume. If you can remember, it is down to her
feet. Just create a new layer (on top of the base layer) and name it Juliet Dress. Draw the outline of her dress in the html color #96B1D8. Flood fill it with the html color #E7EDF7.
Keep in mind, when drawing the dress that Juliet has a certain
figure, like some girls are chubby with curves, and some are skinny with no curves. Some are average weight and
curvy. Juliet in skinny with very few curves, so be sure to remove the chest on the base.
3. In the film, you can see that Juliets' dress starts ruffling near the top of her stomach. Start drawing the
ruffles on her dress near the top of her stomach. When you are done drawing the ruffles, shade the entire dress. The
result should look similar to the picture below.
Isn't it pretty-ful? Now that the dress is done, you have a choice whether to draw the wings
or not. If you chose to draw the wings, go to step 4. If you chose to skip them, continue to step 5.
4. You chose to do the wings? Excellent choice! It's what I would've done, too. :D
To draw the wings, go under the base layer, than click Layer>New Raster Layer. Name the new raster layer Angel Wings. It
needs to be on under of the base layer because it would look rather silly to have wings on top of the outfit, instead of
behind Juliet. Draw half of the wings, fill them in with a lighter gray color, and use the lighten darken tool to shade it.
Copy the wings you have finished, and paste it as a new selection. Mirror it, and make it across from the first wing.
5. Okay! Step 5! We are almost done with Juliet, by the way... We are drawing the part few people really like to
do.. the hair. Go back to the Juliet Dress Layer, and go to Layer>New Raster Layer. Name the Layer Hair. Pause the film in the Capulet
party scene where it shows Juliets face, all made up and such. Start drawing an outline of her hair. If it is messy, erase
the messy lines. When you are done, fill it with a lighter color and use the lighten/darken tool to shade it. If you do not
have Paint Shop Pro, than you have to pixel-shade the hair. I have a tutorial for that, too. :)
6. Yay! The last step for Juliet! n_n All you have to do is add the characteristics you saw in the film to the base.
This could be anything from the eye color, to the cross necklace. The things I am editing is..shinier lips, tealer eyes, and a cross
necklace.
Yes! Juliet is done in 1,294 clicks! The next step to 100% complete the doll is to add her mate, Romeo! But
I shall do that when my hand does not ache. o-O
