The Turnersville Youth Organization, Inc. is collecting used cell phones in our efforts to significantly increase fundraising. In conjunction with the Charitable Recycling Program, a donation payment will be made to Turnersville Youth Organization, Inc. for each and every cell phone collected - regardless of age or condition. With more than 150 million cell phones retired in the U.S. each year, the fundraising potential is tremendous. Because cell phones and their batteries contain toxins they should not end up in landfills. The Charitable Recycling Program provides the community with a cost-free and convenient recycling opportunity. Recycling benefits more than the environment. Recycled cell phones are used for social good as many donated phones are distributed for 911 (emergency only) services, providing battered adults, children and senior citizens with a direct link to necessary communication. Other recovered phones are reused in less developed countries where the cost of a new phone is prohibitive, or, in areas of the world where there are no land (wire) lines. Obsolete used cell phones are destroyed in an environmentally-responsible manner, with 100% landfill diversion. This announcement coincides with (organization's) e-waste reduction efforts, as the program illustrates the leading role (organization) is taking towards assisting the community with technology recycling. Recycled Cell Phones help Mother Nature and those in need of emergency communication. Turnersville Youth Organization, Inc. is collecting used cell phones on an on-going basis for the benefit of the Turnersville Community Park who will receive a monetary donation for each phone received. The phones can be recycled and sent to areas with economic necessity. Some phones are also refurbished and given to those who are in need of 911, emergency only, communications. "Cell phones contain many toxins and are very hazardous to our environment and they should not end up in landfills." All cell phones, regardless of age or condition, will be accepted. Make certain to deactivate your phone as well. "We're very excited about this opportunity", said Allen Campbell (Secretary/Treasurer of the TYO) "It not only greatly benefits the Turnersville Community Park, but assists in preserving the environment and bringing communications to those who could otherwise not afford it."
